Early Falcon gasser project

I've always loved the first gen Falcons, but no detailed kits are available.

I found this old '62 and decided to give it a gasser look. It had the Styline rear puttied on, but I removed that first.

Next I removed all the protrusions from under the one-piece body.

Then I smoothed out some of the serious mold seams and removed the door handles.

I modified the Mobius Chevy ll floor pan and interior (I'll modify the Falcon dashboard to fit).

I cut the hood out and thinned it.

Off to a good start.

For a more detailed chassis can you use one of the many first gen mustang frames to save you some work?

edit- oops, I see that you're using the Moebius frame already

I modified the Chevy rad wall to fit.

I decided to use the 427 FE from the Thunderbolt kit, but it just won't fit......................yet!

I mocked up the front suspension, but I'll need a rear sump oil pan, so..........out came one of my favorite tools!

With the oil pan modified and intake manifold sanded way down, I tried to fit the supercharger.

Ford FE engine's distributor location just isn't good for the blower belt, at least in scale!

Even the all chrome parts pack 427 moves the distributor to the rear, opposite side, when supercharging.

So I added a blank off plate at the front and proceeded to relocate my dizzy to the rear, and wired it.

Now I had to make up firewall mods to accommodate that big supercharged 427.

Transmission tunnel also had to be enlarged and I had to make room for the 4-speed floor shift mechanism.

I concentrated on the engine build, making mods along the way.

Made up a second set of pulleys and a belt for an alternator mounted way down out of the way.

I shortened the oil filter, removed the attached coil (I'll put it on the firewall later), modified the headers to fit the FE port spacing, added fuel lines to the injectors, etc.

 

In that picture above, I see my alternator bracket isn't painted black yet, I forgot. I painted the inside black before I glued it on because I couldn't get a paint brush in there without touching the blue. Now I can easily reach the front with a tiny brush..........wait a minute..........okay, done! LOL

Thanks Zippi, I already did a '63, post car, but in a way more modern take, supercharged coyote and all modern suspension. Almost bought a real 63 and a half hardtop! I love those!

This one though will be more old school, and although it's a '62, I have a 3D printed, see-through, '61 grille that I'll use.

I'll also be making it back into a post car, previous customizer removed the B pillars!

Now that's a great looking early Falcon Dennis.  The current build will be awesome I'm sure.

I've been trying to decide on rolling stock and I've finally arrived at a decision!

I found these cool front tires and these mags, but I had to cut away some rubber to get the wheel fronts to sink in, then I had to make shims and wheel backs.

I had 3D printed wrinkled slicks with deep mags, but I had to sand the slicks and fill imperfections.

Then I sprayed all 4 mags with Revell chrome, and the slicks with Tamiya rubber black.

Thinking about painting the spokes light gunmetal, then spraying semi-gloss clear over them, not sure yet on that though, trying to figure out a rear suspension set up.

That looks beautiful !! The very first car I played in when I was about 5 years old. It was abandoned and starting to rust, poised next to the Mississippi River in Missouri. We found out that afternoon there was about an 8 foot water moccasin living in it. It could have swallowed me whole.  Will never forget that day or the car I loved to make believe in.

I brush painted the spokes with Tamiya XF-53 Nuetral Grey, I like this look.

I took the kit glass which doesn't include rear side windows, I'll make those, and cut it apart!

I am going to put B pillars in but after I have the interior and glass fitted, those new B pillars will be fragile.

I wanted to try and find a 3D printed grille that was see through, but so far I haven't.

So, I did this to the kit grille.

I drilled out those horrible chrome headlights, chromed the buckets with Revell spray, then added clear lenses.

I tried some black panel wash, not sure I like it, but it's way better than the one piece unit AMT provided.

I won't have a front bumper, but I'll have to scratch build the sheet metal behind it.

Make me want to dig out my 67 falcon and see how well it would take to some modernizing?. Clean work as usual Dennis.
