It's amazing how many times I see builders add plug wires, fuel lines and throttle springs but leave the alternator out there just hanging from the fanbelt. You have a good looking stance on the car too. It looks like you have "big & littles" on it but it's in the rubber, not the rims. That's a good way to do it. David G. Exactly, I it's got a bit of "rubber" rake. Not completely happy with the rears, those are the a similar to stock size tire on a slightly widened stock wheel. May try widening them, but I only have 3. Quote

johnyrotten Posted November 19, 2024 Author Posted November 19, 2024 Finally got some color on the body, second attempt. First attempt had zero adhesion. None. Figured I might be the thinner, we'll see if this works. The whole craft paint thing has been learning experience, I can see how it has its place, and where it may not. I'll chalk it up to inexperience. 2 Quote

johnyrotten Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 Started diving into some detail work and getting this finished up. Painted the engine compartment, installed the engine on the chassis, some touch up work on the exhaust, and molotow on the tips. Still have to black out the centers. Trying to not get too carried away detailing, it's difficult to know when to stop, or if it's feasible. And I really dislike the master cylinder on this kit. Look ls like a 5 o'clock on Friday attempt. 6 Quote

johnyrotten Posted November 30, 2024 Author Posted November 30, 2024 I think I have the engine compartment where I want it. More detail, added some brake lines and the bale(I believe that's what it's called) for the sorry excuse for a master cylinder. Doesn't look too bad now. Also finished the interior. That's my first attempt at woodgrain on the steering wheel. 2 1 Quote
johnyrotten Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 Photo etch is fun. I really need to get some magnifacation, welding doesn't lend well to vision long term I'm learning. Put some linkage on the other side of the carbs, kinda wish I had done this on the other side. There's one vacuum line for the brake booster and then I'm calling this part good. Thanks for looking 1 Quote
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Moving along nicely. Really like that color on this body style, and I'm a big fan of that throttle linkage too. 1 Quote
Bainford Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Looking really good, John. Nice detailing and tidy work. Very nice looking paint, too, and double points for first airbrush job. 1 Quote

David G. Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Great work on this John! The engine bay and interior look great, I love all the extra detail you're throwing at this. David G. 1 Quote

I've got to polish out some scratches on the "glass", this kit has a bit of everything going on. Quote
johnyrotten Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Started polishing the "glass", no pics of that, one scratch is deep, I can catch a fingernail. That's bad enough to warrant repair/ replace on machined surfaces, not sure if it's worth the work on this. Also stripped the chrome, it's horrible. Half of it shows the red plastic, flash, ect. Smoothed out some low spots on the front bumper, those files are awesome. Left it polished. I'm sold on them. 2 Quote
David G. Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Best of luck with that glass John, that looks like a pretty challenging scratch. Have you considered a replacement? That bumper is shaping up quite nicely though. How do you plan to replace or touch-up the chrome? David G. 1 Quote

If I fail with the glass, I may try some clear acetate, yet another thing I haven't done before. I've polished headlight lenses on 1:1 vehicles, so I have a clue how to go about it. For the chrome, I'm on the fence with molotow, I would like to try bmf, but I've seen where people had problems with the amazon sourced. Something about its age, and coming folded. I've seen 2-3 other products people used, I really want something that will be reasonably tuff. Or something I can top coat with minimal issue. Quote
johnyrotten Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 I've saved the glass. About a half hours worth of work. 12000 grit paper, wet and a drop of dawn dish soap for lubricant. Sanded both sides, as it had scratches on both outside and in, of course. Followed up with meguiars plastic x on a pad, and then on a micro fiber. The pads are mildly abrasive, so it acts like an intermediate step. I think one more polishing and it will be back to original. 3 Quote
