xs650shawn Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Started this while I figure out a few things on another build. Testors Aluma Coupe, or Aluma Roadster more appropriately. When I was a teen, Scale Auto had a contest/build-off for the Aluma Coupe kit. I did not get my build done in time, but it ended up being my best build up to that point. Sadly, I got rid of it in a purge when we were moving. This build is a recreation/tribute of that one. Color will be a periwinkle blue/lavender (very 1990's color), with a fawn/tan interior. Obviously, the roof is gone. May have to buy an AMT 1969 GTX pro street just for the decals, as I had used some for the interior. Otherwise will be box stock. 4
CabDriver Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Cool concept! Love the Aluma Coupe! What are you planning for the interior (assuming you’re starting with the snap kit and not the full-detail version, that is…)

It has interior and engine details. 1

xs650shawn Posted November 4, 2024 Author Posted November 4, 2024 Little work today on my Aluma Roadster. Built the subassemblies, as the front one is way too fiddly to try assembling after paint. Also decided to fit up some taillights, as the kit just provides a sticker (not a waterside decal) for the taillight. Will fill in the rear grill, since it looks odd with the taillights. Will come up with an exhaust outlet after it's smoothed. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 The coupe was a killer build! Yours is looking good! I've got a GTX kit I'm not going to use the decals from. You're more than welcome to them.

xs650shawn Posted November 11, 2024 Author Posted November 11, 2024 Went a little unorthodox with my hinge method, but I think it's gonna work. 2
Mad Slammer Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Nice job so far… I did something similar a couple of years back… Mine is less detailed but the interior is scratch built… 1
xs650shawn Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 Phase one of the paint completed. 3
bill-e-boy Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Saw the Aluma Coupe the Vault at the Petersen Museum recently. As cool in the flesh as it is in all the media. Of note model wise is the Lil John Buttera 26 Tudor is there as well. 1
LennyB Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I started one of the coupes when the kit was first released. I didn't care for the look of it so I did some serious modification to it. I cannibalized one of my older builds which I wish I hadn't at this point as I would rather have the original. The back half is from the MPC Gangbusters 32 Chevy. Didn't really care for how it was going and gave up on it before the red spot filler dried.
xs650shawn Posted November 29, 2024 Author Posted November 29, 2024 Some progress. Looking like the one I built years ago. Was thinking about some pink or purple scallops on it, but wouldn't really be a tribute build then, would it? 5
xs650shawn Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Finished. I love this car and kit, but it sure tested my patience. Lots of fiddley parts. 4
Old Buckaroo Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Stunning is all I can think of, man that looks nice and it looks flawless. Lil John Buttera was one of my early influences, looked so forward to his articles in the hot rod magazines of the early 80's. (I need one of these kits) 1
Moparman18064 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Wow, the is so sleek looking. The colors, wheel choice are perfect together.
