Robberbaron Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 A little bit surprised that they're bringing this one out, since.the '71 Demon and the Duster are both currently available. Then again, maybe it's wise since there's possibilities for parts swapping between all three of them. Box art seems to indicate we will get a proper set of "mags" in this (as opposed to the Pontiac Honeycombs). Not clearly shown what they will be, but they look "Torq-Thrusty". Suspect it will be one of the separately tooled sets that they've already included in a lot of their other recent kits, like the full-bumper '70 Camaro, etc. 2
Bainford Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I wouldn't mind if it had the five slot wheels from the Smokey the Convoy Chaser version. 2
Bob Ellis Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 With kits costing $30-40 buying them for parts is a costly proposition 1
Ragtop Man Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Nice save of the tool, for sure, eminently bashable with the Demon/Duster/Whatever.
Rob Hall Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 (edited) I remember the 2006 release had a taller hood scoop and different wheels (the Pontiac mags in some versions never made any sense). That box also called it a Duster. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/amt-ertl-38155-1975-dodge-dart-sport-hard-top--1155022 Edited October 13, 2024 by Rob Hall
Mark Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 The "Duster" Dart first appeared in the early Eighties, prior to MPC being acquired by Ertl. MPC tooled a new, funny looking hood scoop which was taller but still fit over the same hole as the original one. The original scoop doesn't fit over the dual quad Hemi, only the single four-barrel carb version. The tool was probably marked somewhere as a Duster, as the Dart was converted from the '75 Duster which in turn had evolved from the '71 annual kit.

It started life as the 1971 Duster 340 annual ; the following annual updates were borne out of that original release : 1.) 1971 Demon 340 , a mid-1971 release ; 2.) 1972 Duster 340 ; 3. ) 1973 Duster 340 ; 4. ) 1974 Duster 360 ; 5. ) 1975 Duster 360 ; 6.) 1975 Dart Sport 360 (mid-year tooling change ) ; 7.) 1976 Dart Sport 360 . These are only the stock/annual versions I've listed. Offshoots I can recall : 1.) Smokey Chaser (1977) ; 2.) c.1983 "Dodge Duster" ; 3.) c.2003 "1975 Duster Hardtop" ; 4.) c.2013 reissue of the 1975 Dart Sport annual, box art and all ; decals upgraded ; 5.) c.2019 reissue of the 1976 Dart Sport annual ; moulded in gold metallic ; box art almost 100% resembles the original's ; decals upgraded. The latter two issues also upgraded the figure to being able to build both the standing figure as well as the sitting figure. 1

You got most of them…there was also a Butch Leal California Flash Pro Stock, a Sox & Martin Pro Stock, and a Mopar Missile Pro Stock. There was also a limited release of the Smokey Convoy Chaser Car about 20 years ago…maybe for RCHTA or something? I have one somewhere. It proves that they can add the Smokey parts back into this tool at will (or at least they could 20 years ago). 2
1972coronet Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Now... how's about a resin conversion for this iteration ? Y'know , 1973-1974 grille , and a filler panel for the rear (only '75-'76 received that tail lamp panel embellishment). 2

The grille has been available on and off from a few different sources before...I got a 3D '73-'74 grille from eBay several weeks ago, but I haven't seen the listing since. Let's swing for the fences, though: maybe Round 2 could treat us to a never-before-available '73-'74 Dart Sport, with the retro box treatment, comprehensive decals, and sunroof body!!! 1

I keep missing it... I've got a grip of the 1971 & 1972 Demon grilles, and the 1970 & 1971 Duster grilles, but I can't seem to catch the '73-'74 Dart grilles. 1
