Looking forward to seeing the WIP on your 50 Olds Zippi. My vote would be for the Jay’s 22’ Essence wheels/tires. I might have to get me a set of those! Here’s a 50 Olds I built a few years ago when it was first released.I had no problems building it other than lowering the suspension.I wouldn’t mind building another one later on down the road.

Nice, love the two tone color.

I’ll be following this one for sure.
I have both variations of the kit, but never got around to building one. I got them for the motors to use in hot rods. But once I opened them, I really like what’s in the boxes. This car was made to be two-tone.

This looks to be a really nice kit.  I'm finishing up my other build before I really get into this one.  Still have no direction in stone just yet.

Well fellows...I've been working on my 57 Ford Sedan Gasser but it's actually completed and I'm waiting on the decals to come in so it's time to get on the 50 Olds.  I got the twist out of the chassis and got most of the engine part cut off the tree.  The lower "X" frame is also twisted pretty good so I cut it away from the other part of the tree and I'll have to see if I can get it straightened up.  I think I'm going with a two 4 setup instead of the 3 deuces that come in the kit.  I have also been checking out other color choices as well.

I found a couple 4 barrel carbs in the parts box and thought I might change up from the kit provided 3 deuce setup.  All it took was to sand down the intake and make it flat then make a plate for the two carbs to set on.  I also did a little mock-up just to see what the model would look like with the 22" wheels & tires.  I'm going to try and make a visor but I don't have high hopes that it'll work out.

Agreed. Usually they're not my thing- style wise - but they look good under the Olds.

I have a spare visor from the AMT '50 Chevy pickup that might work. If you want I can post a pic with dimensions to see if it will on this project.

Thanks Andrew.  Yeah, that Metallic Black would look nice.

Yup. Post a pic with dimensions if you don't mind.

I couldn't find the brackets, but I know I have them. I currently have 3 of these kits in the stash and I think some parts have migrated between boxes.

Also, I don't have the Olds kit to test fit, but from what I'm remembering, the visor might be a little small for the width of the Oldsmobile. Could be easily modified, though.

Thanks DJ.  I actually found one of these visors and it pretty narrow and I'm not a fan of the "V" contour it has.  I appreciate all the info.

I shot some paint this morning to see how it's going to look.  It was primed with Tamiya white surface primer then with the TS-64 Dark Mica Blue.  This paint seemed to pull away from the sharp edges.  I've seen this happen before and it doesn't end well.  I also re-chromed some of the parts that go on the engine.

The pull away seems to happen more with Tamiya sprays than other paints, in my experience. It's frustrating.

Yup.  I let it dry over night and shot another coat on and it looks better.  We'll see how it goes.

I threw some primer on the body yesterday to see any area's where I may have missed any flash or parting lines.  Looks like I got it all.  I've done about all I can do with the visor.  I saw that most of the 1:1 visors have some sort of center section as seen in the pic.  I'm not sure if what I made looks right or just like I spliced it together.  I have a fellow that's going to print up a couple different sizes for me to see if they will work.  I also got most of the 303 cu. in. Rocket 88 engine assembled.  I switched to the two 4's vs the three deuces.

I've built 2 of these excellent kits...one made into an imaginary 3 window "salesman's" coupe, but the salesman sold his to a hot rodder!

Thanks Bill.  Haha, go ahead man, it's there for the taking.

I got some paint (Seymour Stainless Steel) thrown on the chassis and other suspension parts yesterday and got the coil springs installed this morning.  I also got the differential put together.

Bob, those Blue Max wires make that old rocket motor pop. Interesting choice on chassis & suspension finish.  Black can hide detail and this kit is fairly well detailed.  Good idea!

Nice. Super nice. Can't wait to see the paintjob on the body.

I love Tamiya primer, but stay away from their white one. I hate it with a passion and it has caused me headaches numerous times. With a color as dark as that Mica Blue there is absolutely zero reason using it. I think you wouldn't have the same issues with paint pulling from corners with their grey primer.

Gee, Moz, this is the first time that I have heard anyone complain about the light white primer (maybe I missed it?). What did you experience with it? I know it's pretty thin and that can be a problem with some paint types, or applying the color too "wet" (I suspect). What headaches did you endure besides the color pulling away from edges?

Thanks Jim.  I'm just not a big fan of an all black color on the bottome of a car.

Thanks Michael.  I hear ya man.  I'm still a little worried that this Mica Blue isn't going to turn out like I want. Time will tell I guess.

Are you spraying it straight from the can or decanting it and airbrushing it?
