Bullybeef
Ok this is a wild deviation from my usual type of build. I started with a bunch of leftover junk parts and started hacking and taping parts together til I had a decent idea sitting together. The chop saw, sawz all and axe were busy! It’s still very rough and raw but I at least have the idea on my bench and can start smoothing things out. You can see from the timeline of photos that some ideas were tried and scrapped already. At the moment it has a full body, chassis is underway and a driveline will be sorted. So it will not be a curbside. Warning pic heavy!
Zippi
That's going to be a good looking 40 Ford in the end Bil. I'm diggin this project.
dino246gt
WOW! That's a CRAZY amount of splicing and dicing, and I love it! I used the '50 Ford kit's chopped windshield on a '41 Lincoln I did, worked great! Edited October 21 by dino246gt

That windshield frame could be an idea to use. Thank you

Phildaupho
Fabulous slicing and dicing bodywork. Great design as well.
Bainford
Nice hack & whack. Definitely has the art deco vibe. The lines are shaping up nicely. What are your plans for headlights? I picture some Cord-esque pop-ups in the front of the fenders, or perhaps integrating the 40 lights into the new design. I'm sure it's coming, but that things needs to hug the ground. Out of pure curiosity, what are the blue fenders from?

Pop ups or pop outs are a possibility. The stance will be lower, but 1940's lower. The blue fender pieces are from the monogram 1941 Lincoln, 4 rear sections to be exact. Thank you Richard, as much as id love to use a 3d printed engine its neither in the budget nor the design i'm after, it has to retain as much 40 ford as possible. the idea is that a coach builder took on a cosmetic redesign of a 40 in that time period. espo
Like the Pontoon Fender Roadster body look. Should you consider a closed coupe look, think about the chopped top from the '36 Ford kit. Maybe even the chopped top from the old AMT '50 Ford Convertible/Victoria Hardtop kit.

Thank you David for the suggestion, but an open roadster is the look I'm going for.
Jim Dodson
The 'hack and see if it fits approach' to design brings Ian Rousel to mind. I like where this appears to be going, especially the roadster with the undercut front fenders leading edges. Looking forward to seeing more. (I think that's what's in the '50 ragtop kit) Yes, a Carson top would be the absolute right thing for a pre-war custom Ford.
