customline Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Oh yes! What they said, Greg. We all have run into this situation and we now have a blueprint for the remedy. 1
NOBLNG Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) Well that turned out to be a half-baked plan.🙄 I couldn’t get seats to fit up into place with those floor pan sections attached to the body. So I re-attached the lower sections to the frame. The rearward part will still work as is. I have been working on mounting the dash and a few blocks of evergreen glued to the dash and firewall give it a positive mounting location. I scratch built a tilt steering column and mounted it to the dash. Also made patterns for the windows. That’s all for now.🙂 Edited December 30, 2024 by NOBLNG 11
Chris B Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I have to say that i am loving the look of this one. Keep up the great work 1
David G. Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 The march continues! Nice recovery on the seat issue. David G. 1
customline Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Tilt column is a great idea, Greg. Nicely done! 2
NOBLNG Posted December 31, 2024 Author Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Thanks for the compliments fellas!🙂 The kit has some very nice steering components, but they won’t work with my modifications. Plus, they are meant to be glued in place I think, and I want pose-able steering. So I made a new steering arm from evergreen and a new tie rod and drag link from .047” brass rod. Gosh this all looks very familiar. Very similar to what I am doing on my 32 Phaeton 1

IIRC from several hundred years ago, the pins on the steering parts were originally s'posed to be melted flat on the ends with a hot knife or screwdriver blade...after assembly, of course. Anyway, she's still coming along nicely. 1

That does seem to ring a bell though….maybe I read it on someone’s build thread?🧐 Now that I look out of curiosity, the only reference to joining the steering components is this picture. David G. Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Nice fabrication work on the steering linkage Greg! If they don't have what you want, build it yourself! David G. 1
Bainford Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Just catching up with this one. Lovely craftsmanship, Greg. And it's still one of the coolest hot rods I've seen in a long time. I really dig the whole vibe. 1
NOBLNG Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 (edited) Added a rudimentary interior by making a pattern out of tape. I was hoping to do it in one piece, but the body taper would not allow keeping the pleats vertical. So I chopped it into three sections and made them from Evergreen V-Groove sheet. Then made some simple handles and window cranks. I glued them in with thin CA and topped it off with some .040” half round. Nothing spectacular, but better than nothing or what the kit provides. Jim Dodson Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Love where this one is going. Love the stance! Will be a real attention getter at Cruise Nights! Jim D 1
BK9300 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Looks very convincing and once painted, will look like a realistic door panel and trim! 1
NOBLNG Posted January 6 Author Posted January 6 I fixed the missing tabs on the radius arms last night, and today I built some shock absorbers and mounts, and mounted the headlights. 8
Zippi Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Man that's looking good Greg. We are getting hammered with thunder snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Temperatures are going to be below freezing with a few days in the single digits. I won't be able to get back to the bench for another week to 10 days. 2
Mr. Metallic Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Just got caught up on this one, very cool stuff. But i see it's been awhile since any update. Hopefully that's not a bad sign.
