The wagon promos had the correct two per side, but the Craftsman had three for some reason (maybe they used the Impala chrome tree?) plus the wheelcovers were poorly simplified.

Thanks for the correction. I have an old warped '60 Nomad promo packed away somewhere, and I could have sworn that it had triple taillights. Probably mistaken, though, as it's been years since I've looked at it.

Someone mentioned (maybe in a different post) how crude the original promo/Craftsman was. If you zoom in on the next photo, you can see that there are no door lines in the roof pillars on the original. Looks like this one is going to be a huge improvement. showa50 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 This is cool! Hoping for more old Craftman kits to make a return, like the 1960 Pontiac Bonneville or the 59 Lincoln and Buick

Yessir - that hood does open and when I did peek inside, the compartment looks like a good amount of thought went into the design. So, we can cross fingers for a Stovebolt or good rendition of the W-Engine. 1

Imma take a wild guess that when AMT was knocking out the Craftsman / Trophy Jr. series the toolmakers and job setters were working to get product out and might have just grabbed the Coupe/Convertible insert. Wondering how many production runs the Craftsman version of this had before the tool was scrapped (Which Steve G. confirmed in my discussion.)
drodg Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 So excited to see a 72 Duster kit with a correct 72 interior. I think I am going to hold off on my 72 Demon 340 conversion on the new kit now that I can have a correct interior! 1

If I recall correctly, the original tool had three on each side which was incorrect. (Should be two) Hoping that they fixed that rather than cloning the same error. How about that. It looks really cool with three on a side though. But they wouldn't be able to space theme the same as other body styles.
Reegs Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 It looks as if the underneath of the Barracuda is/will be made of individual pieces. Or do my eyes deceive me? Is/will the interior also be made of individual pieces? It appears that the only component missing will be the engine.

Here's the picture of the chassis I took that is at the photl album link above. And yes, it is made of individua pieces. And they looked really crisp to my eyes...TB Edited November 13, 2024 by tim boyd 1
tim boyd Posted November 12, 2024 Author Posted November 12, 2024 Here's something else about the Barracuda that no one has picked up yet (unless I missed the comment). I believe I heard Steve G. correctly when he said that they've tooled up this new wheel cover that was never in the original 3 in 1 kit. It will be in the kit, along with the prior wheel covers that were in the original 3 in 1....TB 4
dragsterguy Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Just to confirm, the Cuda chassis doesn't have everything molded on the chassis plate? Separate rear end and springs, separate front suspension? I see the under hood area actually looks MoPar instead of the totally inaccurate AMT original, I wonder if it will fit the 67 and later cars. Same as the Dusters? I haven't checked wheelbases, just thinking out loud Nice to see this car ( I had a 66, and a big surprise!
michelle Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 well i will be getting a few hellcat chargers and a few 65 barracudas and a couple 72 dusters and a 72 chevelle
dragsterguy Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Ok I gotta say it. Could the Cuda lead into a 64-65 Dart? I'm an eternal optimist here. 1
Rob Hall Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 A '63-66 Valiant would be nice to see also.
Phildaupho Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Thanks Tim for your report and photos. I have been planning a Trans Am Barracuda build using the Hemi Under Glass body so the stock body will make things a lot easier. Back in the day when the '60 Chev wagon was first released I cut it up to make an El Camino.
tim boyd Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 Surprised no one (that I now of) has picked up on this....one of the very first Barracuda Drag Cars was the 1965 Tom McEwen Plymouth Dealers Association car. If you have any of the AMT Barracuda Funny Car kits (Hemi Under Glass, Hemi Hunter et al), the actual chassis/suspension/engine/interior is an exact (to my eyes) copy of this car, not the 1/1 Hemi Under Glass. So....now that we have a factory stock 1965 Barracuda on the way, that body plus the AMT Barracuda Funny Car underpinnings and aftermarket decals (I think Slixx has offered this in the past) = completely accurate replica of yet another landmark 1/1 drag car. Believe it or not, the very above fact was discussed about nine years (IIRC) with certain Round 2 personnel when the idea doing a new '65 Barracuda was first proposed (at least to me). Don't know if we ever will see a combo kit of the real car as proposed above, and don't know if the parts from the two different kits would play well together, but certainly interesting to ponder the possibilities...TB. 2

The Demon and Duster bucket seat upholstery patterns and colour choices are the exact same (first time for white buckets for the Duster and Demon). So, I can imagine that the '72 Duster interior will swap directly into the Demon body, thereby making a conversion of the '71 Demon to a '72 Demon an easy job (door cards' details are passable ; the AMT '71 Duster 340 door cards are better should one want for extra detail). Now, if only someone ( Few Sprues Loose ? M.A.D. ? ) would produce a bench seat interior for the Duster and the Demon... 1

Richard Bartrop Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 The Barracuda and the Nomad look very promising.
