tim boyd Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) You can see 34 images from the show at this link.... Here's the latest from Round 2 as revealed at the 2024 NNL Motor City. The new 1964 1/2 Barracuda and 1960 Chevy Wagon kits revealed at this show will be curbsides, but are well detailed and show the capability to contain builder added/kitbashed powertrains during the assembly process. As is the case with other recent Round 2 new products, these two all-new tools are based on the original AMT annual kits, but with numerous detail, quality, and assembly enhancements. While no additional variations of these two tools are planned at the moment, as was the case with the series of Round 2 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova wagon kits, these are designed in such a way that more detailed underbody content could be added during future kit runs if the market demands it (another words, buy the curbsides if you want to give Round 2 management team a business case to justify additional, more detailed kit variations at some point down the road...) Also included is photography of several other upcoming Round 2 kits. I will be adding some additional info shortly including a look at the new Jo-Han and Atomic City booth, and a new 3D designer and printer doing replica stock parts. Thanks for looking...TB Edited November 12, 2024 by tim boyd 15 7

'70 Grande Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Surprised to see that the 64-1/2 Barracuda is called a curbside but looks to have a fully detailed chassis underneath!

espo Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Wow, thanks for the information. I better start setting aside some extra model monies.
ChrisBcritter Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Jaw hits table... Who would have thought the '60 Nomad would come back? I'd have expected the El Camino, maybe. Having owned a promo and a Craftsman kit, I knew the Nomad was frankly pretty crudely done even compared to the rest of the AMT '60 line. The prototype already looks way better than the original kit; will it be engineered so the '59 El Camino chassis and running gear drop in? Would be missing a golden opportunity if they didn't. That Barracuda chassis will be going under a lot of Craftsman Valiant and Fireball 500 kits, I bet! Looks like the engine filler is supposed to be a slant 6 as was in the original kit. Good on ya, Round2! ? Now about that '66 Skylark...
sean2390 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 The Barracuda and Nomad are very nice surprises.
Radretireddad Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Wow! A first gen Barracuda that’s not a HUG! I sure didn’t expect that! Nor did I expect the ‘60 Nomad. Perhaps we can hope for sedan delivery and swell Camino versions in the not too distant future! ??
Can-Con Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Very cool. The Barracuda and '60 wagon are like The Spanish Inquisition! ??? 2
Mark C. Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Wow! Both have been on my list! Must haves… multiples required!!

1972coronet Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Thanks much @tim boyd for the presentation ! Lotsa goodies comin' down the pipes for MMXXV !
66c10 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) I like the 2021 Dodge wide body charger 64 f-85 olds funny car and the 65 coronet 500 Hemi, 65 barracuda kits Edited November 11, 2024 by 66c10 Adding one more thing
Carmak Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 So happy to see the Barracuda and the 60 Chevy wagon! Thank you Steve!!
CapSat 6 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Wow! Looking at the Barracuda, the chassis and engine room look MUCH better than the original annual bits. It looks like Round 2 is not sticking to the “make it a clone of the annual” design philosophy, which is a very good move. It proves that a simplified but accurate product can be done. I think if Round 2 ever goes with a full detail variant of this tool, creating an accurate looking, but simplified, 273 Commando engine and 14” Goodyear Blue Streak tires for the Formula S package (I would even take them in plastic) would be killer! 2
'70 Grande Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Probably getting ahead of myself here, but has any previously produced 1/25 kit had the 273 Plymouth Commando V-8 engine in it? What was the "optional" V-8 engine in the many times reissued AMT 1941 Plymouth Coupe kit supposed to represent?
oldcarfan Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Just me, but I totally approve of what they are doing with this cloning kit thing. I wonder if it's cheaper to do than the old fashioned way? I bought four of the Chevy II wagon and I'll be doing the same with these. I asked about the chrome bumper 77 Camaro in another post, and it would be nice if they'd do this with some of the MPC kits as well. It would be nice to see that Camaro and a Firebird in a base model, maybe even another small bumper Pinto and Vega. 1

Either the 340 from the 1971 Duster (the c.1998 AMT kit) or one of the resin engines from VCG Resins would be best. The unique-to-the-high-perf 273 items would be the valve covers (finned, with black wrinkle finish) and the air cleaner (plated, unsilenced). EDIT - Technically the timing cover's different on 1964-1969 Chrysler LA engines, as are the aforementioned valve covers (breather and PCV were reassigned sides for 1970 & later). Same with the lower rad hose - the "bubble top" rads have the lower hose on the left side vs. right side from 1970 & later. Edited November 11, 2024 by 1972coronet AMENDMENT
Bucky Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Looking forward to seeing these items hit the shelf! 64 Barracuda, 60 Nomad, 72 Duster all have empty slots in my stash dedicated to them! LoL
Ron Hamilton Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I'll be happy to get the 64 1/2 Plymouth Barracuda, and the 60 Chevrolet Nomad. I wonder will the 273 from the Little Red Wagon/Touch Tone Terror fit in the chassis, as I bought a couple for the original annual. I also have a set of the Sport Wheel Covers from the annual 65, as well as a small block Mopar/727 Torqueflite from VCG Resins. I hope it has the Formula S stripes and trim, as well as Multiple wheel trim options.
66c10 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 That's cool to see the 60 chevy nomad and the 72 Duster
