David G. Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 Ah, that hood configuration seems like it will work much better Jim. Thanks for posting the pic of the 1:1, I now have a better understanding of the direction you're going with this. The front sort of reminds me of a VW Karmann Ghia now. David G. Quote
Zippi Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 That is going to look pretty kewl Jim. I really like the looks of the 1:1. Quote
LennyB Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) I like the look of that pancake hood in the last pic. It goes well with the chop. I guess you need a tool for applying pancake makeup to make it happen. I hope the sprue glue doesn’t take its sweet time in setting up. Edited December 8, 2024 by LennyB Quote

Well...."Funk 49" does look a bit like a squashed bug...I need to rename this thread 🤔 1 hour ago, Zippi said: That is going to look pretty kewl Jim. I really like the looks of the 1:1. This is serious! 🤣 All this talk about pancakes is making me hungry 😀 Edited December 8, 2024 by customline Quote
customline Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 Plan B seems to be working, at least it is today. I'm happy enough with the results. I'm kinda beat and nobody reads this stuff anyway so just take a quick look at the pictures and you can probably figure out what's been done. that's it. Thanks for stopping by. 🤧 4 Quote
BK9300 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 More great body work and cool save on the hood - gotta be pleased! Quote
Zippi Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 The ole 49 is getting all dolled up for some paint. Looking really good there Jim. Quote

David G. Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Well, I read it Jim. I find it's a great way to learn new skills and concepts. It looks like you have the chassis ready to go and the body seems to be catching up fast. David G. Quote

Yeah, I'm going with Mr. Hobby stuff for primer and prep. It seems to be a reliable system. Paint will be a dark color as yet to be determined. It will be shiny, though. Quote

I have not thought of using it for BMF. It's sorta grippy and I think it could tear the foil but it's worth trying; it could save a lot of swabs 😏. Quote

The chassis is a done deal and the body is experiencing some re-thinks at the moment. The tail light issue needs consideration and I'm on the fence about skirts. Then there's the side trim and the bumper question. It's has taken on a life of its own. 🧟 Quote
TopherMcGinnis Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 It's looking good Dude. I expect Winfield, Barris, Hines, and Watson all stood back at one time and said "Meh, I don't like that" and made changes. Quote
LennyB Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 The first photo with the windshield masked off reminds me of a karmann ghia, not that I'm saying you should move the engine to the back. The hood work makes the car look lean and with the grill in place this thing really looks mean, good job.👍 Quote
Paul Payne Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Any thought for pie cutting the body to reduce the height of the rear fenders? Quote

customline Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 Busy day, today. Had to bring her first to the Dentist and after that, the Optometrist. Everything turned out okay, though. She got a new set of dentures (she's in her mid-seventies, after all 😬) and a new script for contacts lenses. These dentures were bothering her, she complained, so it was time for a better fit She had trouble seeing the television so we got her some French lenses. Okay, it's a bad analogy but filing those tiny round things down with my sorry-a$$ hands was quite a task so bear with me. 🥴 Below is a quick guide to Desoto grilles just in case you were wondering. Top to bottom they are '52, '53, '54, and '55. Thanks for your patience 😉 5 Quote
customline Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) Okay, what about this one? Maybe I should get some primer on the whole car now...yeah. 😕 Edited December 11, 2024 by customline Quote

David G. Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 They're all good with the exception of the last one. To my eye the style doesn't line up well with the style of the body. The first is my favorite though. Maybe with a gold tooth? David G. Quote
