I realize the ones pictured above may be over a half-century old, but it happens only to some. Is it the specific type of material? Maybe environmental conditions? UV maybe? 🤔 Well Jim, I think there were some extenuating circumstances involved with this one. This promo was in a flood, in fact maybe a California mud slide might be more accurate. There was a lot of dirt in the nooks and crannies, especially under the back seat. I actually spent some time polishing the 'glass' and got it a lot better but I don't think I'm going to use it. Have a spare windshield from a 66 that fits perfect. Just need to find something for the rear. Would like to do side windows also. I'm a glutton for punishment 😫
LennyB Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) There has been some headway made on Jimmy's Galaxie, although it might fall into the category of one step forward, two back. I had some good weather and I was anxious to get some paint on the body but I probably should have waited. Not that anything went wrong with the paint mind you. I started mocking up the car and realized AMT did a rather silly thing with this car. The have the front hood molding molded as part of the front grill. (say that 3 times fast) For the promo I guess they can be forgiven as the hood doesn't open, but for the kit, sorry but that's a Bozo NoNo.. So despite the hood being painted I needed to do some additional work on it. I took some strip styrene and made a hood molding. Then with the molding on the hood, I removed it from the front bumper assy. Here we have paint on the hood again and my fingers trying to keep everything held together for a quick look-see. I think I am going to do some further work on the bumper unit and open up some of the other cavities like the bumper next to the parking lights. I bet you didn't even see those in there did you? A bit of work has progressed on the chassis as well. With and without the interior in place. There are still things I like to do the old fashioned way. A lot of the bits on the chassis I hand paint with good old Testors, and yes, my jars are old. Can't really tell in the pics but there are 4 or 5 different shades of black at work here. Need to find the rear end next. I'm sure it has highway gears.🥱 And I'll leave you with a pic of the painted body, dust flakes and all. Need to get it clearcoated next and then, Happy Happy Joy Joy, BMF time.... Edited November 27, 2024 by LennyB 2
customline Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Oooo....Lenny got a boo boo on his middle finger 😪🖕 Nice color, Len! Nice work on the hood thing. I've seen that on another kit I have, a '57 Chevy.....? Probably AMT 🤔.
falcon wagon Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 Great Job on your restation. I'm looking for a hood for one if you or anyone has one let me know.

LennyB Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 Thank Carl, I saw your request. I have two other builders in the attic. I know I need bumpers for one. Don’t know what my hood status is, I’ll have to take a look. 9 minutes ago, falcon wagon said: Great Job on your restation. I'm looking for a hood for one if you or anyone has one let me know.

LennyB Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 Got some progress on the Galaxie this week. Fundamentally had to mold some parts for the old girl. One of the first things was to make a bench seat for the car. The kit/promo comes with buckets and a console. Jimmy didn't have that much style, he had bench, which could have gotten him into trouble. Took the rear seat and made a cast of the front side of it. Once the front side was done I built up the backside with some clay and did another cast. Once molded it was cleaned up, the seat backs separated to allow access to the rear seat and some side trim added. Pic came out a bit blurry but you get the jist of it. Also needed to make some wheel covers. The promo wheels use a large axle with a stub that goes right thru the tire. This is not going to work for us. So we cast some hub caps. They were sprayed with Revell Chrome and then coated with Quick Shine Floor Finish and then some accents with Tamiya Panel Line Black. Finally a dab of Testors Ruby Red for the center emblem. And at long last the weather cooperated and I got the chance to spray the clearcoat on the body. A little bit sanding and polish yet to be done. This paint was a bit of a pain to lay on. Scale Finishes 1967 Ford Burnt Amber, the original factory color. I got a couple of nubs on the roof and trunk which when wet sanded turned to black dots and the surrounding area got lighter. It's because it's a metallic finish. Had to respray those sections three times to get rid of the nubs. I was running out of paint but finally succeeded. Give it a few days then we can rub her out. That's all for now. I'm off to go fight with a Duster.🙄 2

LennyB Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 The Galaxie has been patiently waiting in the corner for it's turn on the bench while the paint was getting good and dry. So I pulled it out and got to sanding and polishing. Sanding pads first, 2K, 2.5K and then 3K. Switched over to Meguiar's heavy cut cleaner, fine cut cleaner and then swirl remover. Was going great until I got to the passenger side. Burned thru the paint on the crest of a wave, er, the raise bit down the center of the body side. So had to go back to the paint booth, couple sprays of base coat and then two coats of clear. More sanding and polishing and now we are back on track. Next will be the BMF. I bought some of the matte aluminum to try out as I felt their new improved chrome has too much shine to it. So we shall see, literally. One item I could not find for this build was a stock steering wheel in the attic stash. Got lucky and found one on ebay, made the deal and then the seller couldn't find the part. So it was off to plan B. This is plan B, a close cousin to the Galaxie as it came from the same mud hole at Hershey. 1967 Thunderbird promo, yellow windows and all. Steering wheel is almost identical to the Galaxie which is a one year wheel with the bulbous pad in the center of the wheel. Plan here was to cast a copy of the steering wheel. If I can get it out. Bottom of the promo and the screws are rusted in. Let it soak with some penetrating oil but after three days still not budging. Don't want to force things and damage the body (anymore then it already is)so I may need to cut the heads off the screws But while plan B is simmering the seller on ebay comes up with the wheel. So now it's plan C, or is it plan A part two? "Don't ask me I don't know". OK, Ozzy that's enough from you for now. At this point we are waiting on the steering wheel which is in transit, fingers crossed. And trying to score an engine for this bad boy. Needs a 390 2V. Decided to go with the Moebius 1967 F-100 engine with the C-6. Need to put the valve covers in the drink to get the chrome off and fill that hole in the oil pan, no that is not the drain plug. And I know that's a four barrel but under the air cleaner who can tell. So that brings us to the end of this weeks episode, see you next time🎅 2 1
LennyB Posted January 1 Author Posted January 1 Work progresses on the Galaxie. Started building up the 390 and got some Ford Blue on it. The detail on this is fairly decent, much better then what the AMT kit would have had. As it originated in a truck I will have to make a few minor adjustments. For one the PVC valve is on the drivers side front while on the car it's passenger side rear. The steering wheel finally arrived and got added to the dash that had been waiting impatiently. Column shifter installed as well. Also decided to add some extra detail to the interior by putting Feefee on the rear seat. Printed up some Poodles trying to get the size correct. The one in the middle "was just right". I left the resin unpainted but added some details to the face and applied Tamiya black and grey accents to the body. No, the dog did not make that puddle. Good dog, now go sit down. And finally got out the BMF and started working on the trim. I switched over to the matte aluminum for this build and I do think it looks more realistic then the chrome. However I found it didn't adhere all that well. I even went over the body with some prep-sol to make sure that wasn't the issue. The adhesion got better as I got closer to the center of the sheet. I did the front and rear window frames with the BMF but switched to Molotow for the side window trim, emblems and the wheel openings. I will go back to the BMF for the side molding once everything dries. That's all for today, tune in next time same 🦇 channel. 3
Bainford Posted January 2 Posted January 2 It's coming along very nicely. I quite like the colour, and the foil makes it pop.

TarheelRick Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Good looking Galaxie, really nice paint work. My aunt had a white 67 Galaxie, she traded every three years - '61, '64, '67, first two were black. Really like the detail you are putting into this one.
