This is the AMT 71 Charger R/T that’s going to be my 8th 1971 Mopar for my transporter project. I’m going with Scale Finishes Dodge Q5 Turquoise that would have been a special order color “999” for this Charger. I’m going with a white interior as well.

Q5 was a regular option colour for 1971 ( I've seen it on a '72 Swinger as well ; it was coded Q5 on its fender tag ).

Regardless, excellent choice !

Thanks John, I also found this on Hamtramck indicating the colors for the different models.

Thanks Gene

I’ve decided that I will go with bucket seats and center console. I’m working on buffing out the clear coat and have started on the chassis.

Looking great so far.

I've always liked the c-pillar angle on the 71-72 as opposed to the 73-74.  A friend in high school had a '71 and sitting in the back seat was like being in a cave!

Thanks Bill, yeah I can see that it would be like a cave sitting back there.

I was able to get the wheels done and did some test fitting to see how it’s going to look.

Her car was a slant 6 auto with poverty caps BTW..  I bet there weren't too many slant 6 Chargers.

Bill there may of been more than you think remember that was when gas prices were high and the slant 6 was better on gas.

I have the interior glued together and test fitting. So far everything looks good but I did trim part of the interior trim around the back side windows. I still have more buffing to do.

Nice job Dan, I love the 71 Charger, the hood and taillights are some of my favorite details for this body year.  Very good choice of colors by the way! 👌

Another gem for your transporter project. 👍

Nice colour.  If I can make a suggestion for the future, you might want to glue the front subframe to the floor pan and paint them as an assembly.  On B bodies it was part of the unibody structure, so only the K member and the transmission mount would be painted black.

That's going to be an impressive load for your transporter - maybe on it's way to a Barrett-Jackson auction!  Will you be making a new transporter or have you done one already?  Great collection of cars you've built!

Thanks Stu, so only the lower K-Frame is black and the upper is primer and over spray..

Thanks Nicholas it’s probably going to be at least 2 weeks for me to finish this one.

Thanks Brian, it’s going to be a new build for the early 70’s transporter rig and it’s a 71 load from the factory to your local Plymouth/Dodge dealership’s.

Yes, the K-member is a bolt-on part, so that and the trans mount were painted separately from the underbody.  The wheel wells had some kind of black undercoating, and the front of the radiator support would be blacked out so it didn'tshow through the grille.   Same applies to E bodies.
