NOBLNG Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Nice try on the headlights Dave. I will give it a short look when I get around to building mine but will likely come to the same conclusion you did…it’s just not worth the effort.😕 Short video of them in operation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7vVZOsMzo8
slusher Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Glad you found your colors, David you had a good idea on your headlights sorry it didn’t work out but the cord looks better with them hidden.

I do have to applaud your efforts on trying in any case. Looking forward to seeing your progress in moving forward brother. Thanks Joe. Yeah, it seems as if I'm learning when to pull my head out of the rabbit hole. 22 hours ago, NOBLNG said: Nice try on the headlights Dave. It's a pretty cool video, thanks for the link. The car is even more beautiful in motion. 14 hours ago, slusher said: Glad you found your colors, David you had a good idea on your headlights sorry it didn’t work out but the cord looks better with them hidden. Thank you Carl. Yeah, it would have been nice to have operable headlights but I think it's a feature I can live without. David G. 1

David G. Posted January 14 Author Posted January 14 Hello Everybody! With the hideaway headlight hurdle cleared it's time to get on with some painting! The front fender assembly has been painted and the seams in the rear fenders have been puttied. Once those are sanded smooth, I can get the first coat of paint on the body. Seeing the Cord sitting like this on my Work-Shelf I started thinking... chopped top fender-less roadster... Hmmm... No! No! Stay focused! For painting the wheels to match the body color, I sprayed the kit chrome with some Tamiya flat clear. I then brush painted the outer rims with a couple of coats some Tamiya TS-93 Pure Blue which I liberated from the spray can. Once the blue dried, I finished up with a coat of Tamiya clear before mounting the tires. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to comment. David G. 2
Jonathan Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Have really enjoyed watching your process and progress with this build! Beautiful work so far.
NOBLNG Posted January 14 Posted January 14 The wheels and tires look great great and will complement the car nicely.😎
rattle can man Posted January 15 Posted January 15 looking good! strangely, I like the look of the body with no front fenders, and the roof sitting that way makes me think chop the top.

Thanks Harry. That was my thought too! When I saw it there like that I just had to get a photo. I imagined someone who got ahold of a Cord and didn't have the resources to properly restore it and just made a hot rod out of it. Thanks again everybody for taking the time to share your comments. slusher Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Real nice touch on the wheels David, with the body color accents…

David G. Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 Hello Everybody! I've been having a little trouble with my finger tips drying and splitting due to the cold, dry winter weather so I took a week off building to allow my poor little fingies to heal up a bit. They're not completely healed but they're getting better. So in celebration, here's an update! I've decided on the trim color for the interior, Tamiya XF-75 IJN Gray. The dashboard has been painted Tamiya TS-93 Pure Blue to match the body color. There wasn't a lot of relief to work with when it came to detail painting the instruments so I did the best I could. With the dashboard complete, the steering wheel should be next so here it is. It's been painted Tamiya TS-46 Light Sand to match the upholstery with Molotow chrome accents. That's all for this update. As always, thanks for following along and please feel free to share your thoughts and views. David G. 2

Sometimes you just touch something the wrong way and you get a shooting pain. BTAIM the interior is looking good, especially the dash. Keep it up. 👍
NOBLNG Posted January 24 Posted January 24 My fingers used to get cracks also when I was working with metal. I agree with Len, the dash looks great!

David G. Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Hello Everybody! I finally got the body and fenders blended to my satisfaction so I decided to give it some paint. The result? A crummy paintjob that's completely my fault! While holding the car upside down to paint the inside of the body, it slipped off the clip stand and fell to the patio floor. I picked it up and since there was no paint on the outside of the body yet, I thought just blowing the dust off it would be good enough. A little voice in my head said "Go wash it off, let it dry and then paint it." Yeah, I should've listened to that voice. In spite of all that, I do like the color choices I made. Here's a mockup I made to help me feel better about the whole incident. 😃 As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to post any comments you may wish to share. David G.
LennyB Posted January 31 Posted January 31 David, we've all had that voice yelling inside our heads before we made a bad decision. I think a little wet sanding and a second take should put you back on course.
slusher Posted January 31 Posted January 31 All that matters is your Cord is looking beautiful and I like the color choices!

This one may take three. 20 hours ago, NOBLNG said: Nice! That looks like one of my better paint jobs. Thank you Greg, I think I've seen you do better though. 19 hours ago, Kenmojr said: Coming along beautifully... David G. Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 Hello Everybody! Here's more on the Cord! The first round of color sanding for the crummy paintjob that I got from dropping it on the patio before I painted. I also decided to re-scribe the panel lines to enhance them a little. It's going to need at least one more sand-out and another coat. But I'm getting there. I may do one more pass with the panel scriber. As always, thanks for taking the time to look and please feel free to sign the guestbook on your way out. David G. 1
Zippi Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That blue is looking good David. One more pass with the scriber on the panel lines should do it.
