I was given this by a club member last night. This is a built up OG AMT 1st issue kit.

It was never painted, just polished out. I might paint it. The interior, engine and underside is quite nice.

The kit has a complete chrome tree including the Caddy sombrero caps. Tires seem to be aftermarket.

Outside of paint and completing it, I'm out to be preserving the good quality of the build.

The box shows wear and tear. But is intact. The price tag is $1.29 from Bamburgers. IIRC they were a Macy's NY retail affliiate.

One of my favorite kits, I have several of the original issue in the box yet.  And one I started 40 years ago I need to finish one day.

They are not worth mega bucks so they are good to build and I would imagine cleaner then the reissues.

Great find and this was a very advanced kit for the time.  The plastic that AMT was using at that time, and the black plastic especially, could be polished to a high luster. Maguire's has a polish for plastics designed for headlights and taillights but also works well for boat plexiglass windshields that can even smooth over most seam sanding that may be needed. This may enable you to get the desired finish without painting this kit. Whoever started this kit was doing clean work and nice engine detailing.

More work on this one. I'm down to painting. I sanded off the side trim, also on the hood and added a center strip made from .040" half round.

On the body I had a minor ghosting issue since I'm using a lacquer paint. I used a Mopar touch up paint I got on eBay. Much better than Duplicolor sprays.
