3D 4x4 Chevy 5500 service truck. still a long way to go..if you think 3D building is easy get you some. the prep work will test you.. this is my second one im working on. i learned a lot on my first. on this one thanks to Tim Bongard ( some may know him from scale auto magazine doing the fire truck column) he did a post on one of my Facebook truck groups that saved my butt about prep work on 3d.. the rims & grill were sprayed with Revell Chrome. my finger in the picture is their for a reason. look st the center cap and you will see the reflection of it. that's how good this chrome spray (rattle can) is..STS is doing decals for me. more to come later..

Very fine looking build, Dave.  I heard STS is very busy - will you have to wait long for your decals?

Thanks Brian. Yes they very busy. Terry told me 6 to 8 weeks. its been close to a month now, so maybe by Christmas. not much left to do. put the side & back windows in, rig out the crane and a few other small detail. the decals will be the hold up to finish it.

Still waiting for my sander decals, too - unfortunately, Terry got them mailed to me just before the postal strike up here started.

Fantastic work! You don't see a lot of these heavy duty work trucks being built in scale. Can you post or link Tim's advice on 3D prep work?

Not to hi-jack your thread, but I like your body! Prints up quite nicely. Should try making your own decals. Much faster, and they turn out pretty good.

I'm going to print another one, and will be adding more of the details and accessories that you have. And I like the Chev crewcab you picked too.

thanks Dan. its all good i dont mine members showing off the same type of build. i have printed some of my own decals but i have Terry doing the crane and matching door decals, air compressor & Miller welder decals with the control decals. (i got to replace that welder. wrong color blue and i got white miller decals coming).. that's just a few he's doing for me . he has always treated me right on decals. i still have to wait till the chrome dries on the head lights before i can finish the cab. by then the decals should be here..what color you do the grill & lights ? picture ?

I actually didn't make the headlight lenses on this one. 3D printing them in clear resin didn't work so well. Too foggy. And Being that there's a corner involved, making the lights using my vacuum former didn;t work so well either. I need some different plastic for the former, something a little thicker that will hold it's shape.

The grille is a Duplicolor chrome spray, mesh insert from the parts bin.

my cab has 4 different lens. i did not print it so all i got was the templates . i have a dental vacuum forum machine that they make teeth with that works great on windshields. but they are so small i haven't figured out a way to mount them to forum them. i have plenty 0.020 PETG clear plastic sheet to do them. that could be what you need for your vacuum forum. i get mine off eBay..i did find some clear leans in the clear parts box that i added to the lights that looks great to me. only people that i tell will know they dont belong..lol..

Nice build. I have two of the basic trucks, an auger truck and a cherry picker. They are sitting in my shelf as is but I would like to create a detailed model of those work trucks in a local utility livery.
