I was looking for my next build and this Monogram '41 Willy's Pickup kit (2013 Release) just kept catching my eye so here we go fellows.  I cracked the box open and cut a few pieces off the tree.  Everything looks pretty decent.  I have a couple colors in mind which are the Tamiya TS-57 Blue Violet and the Testors Extreme Lacquer Purplelicious.  I have never used any of the testers Extreme Lacquer paints so not sure how they spray out.  And...what's the odds on the decals being any good???

Might consider getting reprints of the decals as a backup plan just in case they're compromised by age. I used the Testers Purplelicious on a Dodge Magnum Wagon build before and it sprayed out nice and smooth right from the can. The usual spoon test will give you an idea as to how it lays down. Look forward to watching this build.

This is for a GB on another forum so I have until the middle of next year to finish it and in case the decals don't work out.  Yup, I'll do some spoon test for sure.

Like I had to do on the one I'm building to make sure the wheels are more centered in the wheel opening.

Gotcha. This is a Monogram kit so hopefully it won't have that issue but ill be on the look out.

I built this version a while ago. I found it a challenge with vague instructions, poor parts location ect. I didn't use the decals...

I'm sure you'll nail it tho'!

Bob, this is a nice kit. I will be following.

One thing I did on mine was swap the pickup bed with the more stock looking one from the AMT Willys PU. Just a thought.

Pretty kewl looking Willy's pickup Gerald with the longer box on the back.  I've cut the engine parts from the tree and not liking what I'm seeing.  I may have to turn to the Iceman.

I hear ya Barry.  There is a lot about this kit that doesn't set well with me.  I really don't like how the hood attaches and I really don't like the decals either.

Thanks. I dropped a "Miss Deal" Studebaker kit Chrysler Hemi in mine.

I’m interested to see what you do with it Bob. I have a Revell kit that is molded in purple. I’m not into drag vehicles, but this one I just might do as one?

Yup, same kit I believe.  Should build up pretty nice.

I got some of the pieces cut off the tree and cleaned up this morning.  First order of business was to get rid of that funky hinge thing on the hood and get is more smoothed out.

Bob,

Looks like a fun project but will take some effort. On the color, Paint it the TS-57. The extreme lacquer's metal flake is too big IMO.

The engine is the big downfall in this kit (also the Henry J, and 50 Austin coupe pretty much all the same ) engines from the Anglia,Thames panel, and SWC 40 Willys, or the parts pack motors work well !! Can't wait to see your take!

I hear ya man.  I'll probable be putting a blown Hemi or BBC in from the Iceman.

The technology from the era this kit was made, shows up or rears its ugly head. Great subject,  with your skills it will look nice.

Thanks man.  I'm hoping for a smooth build on this one.  I don't want to fight it so I'm taking the gloves off 😃

Both great choices. I’d recommend the BBC just for the more detailed of the two.

Yup, that's the one I'll be going with.
