stitchdup Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I made a start on these today. I printed them both from files by macone1 on cults and the lincoln v12s are files from mcs design, also on cults. The suspension on the coupe will be independent front and rear but i forget who those files are from. The coupe is getting modern suspension and box (box from motabas) while the convertible will be more stock components. i'll be robbing the top boot from the monogram 41 for the convert. all i've got done so far is sanding the coupe parts ready for primer. The body i printed for the coupe has some flaws but i'll show some tricks for fixing them with printer resin and using resin as filler engine and suspension parts theres a full convertible and engine in this box 4 Quote
Zippi Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Nice projects Les. I like the old fat fender cars. 1 Quote
LennyB Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Looks like a cool project. I'll be following. 1 Quote
NitroMarty Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I'll be watching your progress on this... Would love to get my hands on one of those coupes. 1 Quote
Bugatti Fan Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) The quality of those 3D printed parts looks good Les. Far better than the Lotus Cortina Mk2 that I bought at Telford a couple of years back to make a model of a car I used to own. Edited December 3, 2024 by Bugatti Fan 1 Quote

Bugatti Fan Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 You could be right about the P4 source Les. 1 Quote

stitchdup Posted December 4, 2024 Author Posted December 4, 2024 got the convertible body and chassis assembled today. i also modified one to fit the much bigger 6 speed box and after finding the centre of the roof had a slight droop, i swapped it for a better print 2 Quote
Zippi Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Looking good Les. That's going to be a good looking ride. 1 Quote
David G. Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 That transmission reminds me of an old VW transaxle. This is a really cool build, I'm trying to imagine driving a small sports coupe like this with a V-12 in it. 😮 I did get to drive a Viper once but it wasn't mine so I didn't feel I could push it too much. NOBLNG Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 That looks amazing Les. You 3d printers make me jealous.🥴 1 Quote
stitchdup Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 well its time to make the multi part body into one part. to do this i used some printer resin, an old brush and a light for curing uv nail varnish. I brushed resin into the gaps then hit it with the light for a while. the resin will leave a greasy residue once cured but a wipe with alcohol fixes that. i did the chassis too but didn't get pics of that. and i've decided to just print an entire new coupe body as i'm still fighting the top on it. i'll also be printing the gearboxes that come in the lincoln as neither of those i was going to use will fit the floor without a lot of work so to avoid that i'll use the one that fits with the v12s. its not very detailed but its under the floor and wont be seen anyway. David G. Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 All this tech is amazing Les! And here I am feeling all special because I use Tamiya Extra Thin Cement instead of Testors tube glue! That looks like a sure-fire method of getting a solid bond! It also looks like it leaves working material for smoothing the joints down too. Nicely done! David G. 1 Quote

David G. i like that it saves any compatibility problems. i've found some hobby fillers dont stick to the bare resin very well so i borrowed the nail light from my sister to do a test and it worked. it also helps to take the twist out of the body as it wasn't as square as it should have been. to fix the twist i taped the body to a flat board before starting so once the resin cured it stayed straight. i did the same with the chassis. tbh i'm surprised it did so well as i've only used this method on resin pinholes before. stitchdup Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 well i got it mocked up and found i need to do a little narrowing if i want to fit brakes with the wheels. i can mod the wheel backs but will have to enlarge the rear to go over the drums. i'm using brakes from the wrecked 32 coupe so they dont go to waste. at the front this means a bit more work but i think it will be worth it. swapping the gearbox worked too so now the v12 fits. nothing is glued together yet but all the main parts fit though the drivers door gap needs a little work at the rear corner. They both have fresh chassis now too after my mods to fit the other gearboxes meant the kit one had nowhere to fit. i'll need to do more work in the bay to level out the engine but there is space to do it. This one will be frenzel blown. i'll be making up new door panels and interior walls so the top looks like it should be there and i think i have the jump seats and heater unit from a revell 40 ford that should work in this. the aim for this one is a lowrider bomb. since the trunk open but has nothing in it i'll be making up a floor for it too. the firewall will need a lot of work 1 Quote
milo1303s Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I have a question for ya assuming you have the Monogram 41 Lincoln. Would the front clip from the 41 fit the 37 coupe body without much surgery ? I really wanna build a 41 coupe and I don't have a 3d printer or the Monogram 41 lincoln kit currently lol any help would be great Bob C. 1 Quote

Zippi Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Yeah...you may need to get the sawzaw out and the welder for this job Les. It's going to look pretty good though. 1 Quote

stitchdup Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 had to do something with the axles as they were a little too simplfied and the drums made them both too wide for the body. but i had leftovers from the failed 32 that i figured would work on this. for the rear axle i just trimmed the ends of the axle and pinned the drums on. at the front i've glues the drums on but will be trimming them back to just leave the rear edge of the drums. this should look fairly convincing once painted and detailed. i need to figure out where to mount the shockers next as the lincoln fenders limit where they can go. they might end up being the last parts fitted front axle before front axle parts donor 1 Quote
