mrmike Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 (edited) Another project to get started on! 1972 Chevelle SS backdated to a 1971 Chevelle SS454. This car is from the TV series, "Blue Bloods". Originally, the car was owned by Joseph Reagan who was killed by fellow Policemen known as the Blue Templar. Jamie Reagan took over ownership of the car and then the car was crashed in an attempt to kill the youngest Reagan.. In season 14, Jamie gave the car to Joe Hill since it was originally Joseph Reagan's car and Joe Hill is the late Joseph Reagan's son. I will attempt to change to grille to a 1971 vintage and remove the 1970 Chevy side markers. Edited December 8, 2024 by mrmike 3 Quote

It is the 1970 Chevelle body with the side markers on the lower front fenders. Nothing a sanding stick can't cure! The basic engine block has been assembled and painted. Now for the engine wiring and all the rest of the parts. The Revell '70 Torino GT gave up it's Cragar SS mags for this kit. 2 Quote

Carmak Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Mr. Mike, Here are some pics I took a while back to detail the differences between the 71 and 72. The 71 and 72 use the same fender extension, the 72 grille and headlight bezels are positioned further forward than the 71 grille and headlight bezels. If you separate the grille and headlight bezels from the bumper and slide it back under the hood it will help to look more like a 71. Cool project. Looking forward to your progress. 4 Quote

As I go through this kit, I am finding parts that the instructions do not have any recollection of. I can use the extra air cleaner and distributor, but there is also the high rise intake and small air cleaners, fuel inlets and filters in the kit that the instructions don't call for or list. I have begun work on the grille for the '71 SS and so far, it is not bad. Some more work, a little paint and we will be golden! 3 Quote
Carmak Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Many Round2 kits were originally released on the first golden era of model kits (late 50’s-mid 70’s). Over the years some of these kit have been modified many time with small change and/or major changes. The kit you have started out is a 70 Chevelle in 1970, then a 71 in 1971 and 72 in 1972. Thru the rest of the 70’s it was sold as the Red Alert Chevelle and in the 80’s it was sold as a 72 Street Machine. In 94 it was changed back into a 70 Chevelle, in 02 it was modified so the mold could be easily changed back and forth from a 72 into a 70 and back, the model kit could not be changed back and forth, the mold could be change so the same mold could make two different versions. You have this version of the 72. Lastly the 70 version of this kit was revised this last year to make it more accurate. I don’t know if this is the end of the 72 or not. Extra parts from previous versions are pretty common on a model that dates back to 1970 and has been changed a half a dozen times. 1 Quote
