TopherMcGinnis Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I saw this rendering on Instagram and immediately thought "That needs to be built!" So, I ordered up a kit and got started. My friend had a Tim Richmond Monte Carlo that happily donated its rear glass for the cause. I've cut the body out so the glass doesn't look like it's just stuck there. I had the extra tub for the Lincoln Continental kit to convert it to a wagon. With a little cutting it fit perfectly. I'll be using the wide body parts and have a set of wheels that match the picture just right. I'm shooting to be finished for a show in January. 11 Quote
TransAmMike Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Well this is sure interesting...would have been a cool 1:1 Olds. 2 Quote
NerdmanB Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 This looks very cool I will be following Quote
oldrevellfan Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) Nice project! the rear windows seams to be bigger and more fast back.... and the exhaust are square Edited December 9, 2024 by oldrevellfan Quote
dave branson Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Great looing project. I will be following this one. Quote
1930fordpickup Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) This is awesome. If Olds tried ro make this GM would have lost his head. They (Cutlass) were already out selling the Chebby boring offing with the younger buyers without this beautiful work of art. They would have axed Oldsmobile even faster than they did. Bainford Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Cool project. Interested to see where this goes. The Aero Coupes were good looking cars by 80s standards. I got to say though, I'm not a fan of the lower body tupperware. Quote
Superbird McMonte Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Wish I had seen this earlier, as I could have offered you the Pontiac 2+2 NASCAR as a donor for the window and deck. I think that is what was used in the rendering. Although I personally like the Monte glass better. Nice work! I’m looking forward to seeing this done. 1 Quote

I'm digging how this is turning out. I'm going to add hinges to the top and have it as a hatchback style section. 1 hour ago, Bainford said: Cool project. Interested to see where this goes. This leans itself towards the sketch though. Quote
rattle can man Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I will definitely follow this build. I'm curious about how you will handle the retention straps molded into that NASCAR rear window. Keep them or remove them somehow? Quote

Ace-Garageguy Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Cool project. Really changes the character of a car I've always kinda liked but was never hog-wild about. There are a lot of subtle differences between the rendering and the Revell body though. It even looks mildly sectioned and chopped from my perspective. Quote
TopherMcGinnis Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 Well BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. I used 5 minute epoxy to attach the Tupperware parts and one piece peeled off today. Hmph. I tested another one and it peeled off too. Speed i took all of it off and sanded the body and parts, then washed everything. While rinsing one piece floated out of my hand and right down the drain 😳 I pulled the trap in hopes of it being there, but it's gone. Quote
johnyrotten Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I'm Always paranoid about that happening. Crummy luck. The wife has these little mesh drain covers, I still go as far as to use two large Tupperware containers, one to soak, one to rinse. Carpal tunnel and nerve problems in my neck make my dominant hand useless at times, so it's "belt and suspenders" for me. Any idea why the epoxy didn't hold? Quote

1930fordpickup Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) Buick was already a big seller over in China so that is how they stayed.. Edited December 18, 2024 by 1930fordpickup Quote

TopherMcGinnis Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 I have the ground effects curing in place. I'm going to cut and form another piece of clear styrene. What's the trick to bending and avoiding white marks in the bend? 1 Quote
Keef Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I have two of these G bodies in my stash currently awaiting ideas for builds. I’ll be watching this one too!! 1 Quote
