As a Flight simmer for more than 25 years, I think I am wanting to give American Truck Sim a shot ….. it looks great and some nice models, I will even get to try the new Pete I never got to drive in real life …. Just wonderin how many of you guys have it, and what controllers you are using. It has come might years ahead of what it was just a few years ago …. Any thoughts, ideas or experiences ?? Just curious as to what the masses have to say ….

I drive trucks for a living, so my only interest in the game would be to see how big of a crash I could cause.

I drove for 38 years and never got to drive the NEW Pete or any other new truck ….ever

I have never played the sim. There was a fellow on another model forum that was a prolific model builder. Once he started playing the truck sim, he faded away from building quite quickly. It may be addicting. I don't know.

I know that I can't get enough of my racing game/sim.......... I have a flight simulator for the Playstation 2 called 'Sky Odyssey'. Quite difficult, but fun.

I remember an arcade Semi Truck driving game. I won a lot of beer and $ playing that game. I am a retired truck driver. I still long for the power and being able to see miles down the road.

By looking at the video’s on you tube , I think ‘addiction’ is a very good description, it looks addictive as it is SO detailed and with a few addons it makes it incredibly realistic. Trouble is , a guy could spend a lot of money on controllers etc….. but it is better than some other habits, I’d say.

I play ATS, I use a Playstation 4 controller and it works fine. It has the same kind of relaxing vibes as a flight sim but you have to deal with traffic.

From what I have seen it looks really good, and can be somewhat addicting.... I have been a flight simmer for years and have some cool birds, but it is or can be a bit on the dull side as once in the air, you are kind of alone, where as dealing with traffic, seems to me to be a bit more interactive?

Yes, there is much more to do on a minute by minute basis than a flight sim. The loads are also timed so you have to gauge your stops and sleep to make your delivery. Once you arrive at your destination you can either end the trip or park the trailer yourself for more experience. You can also buy garages I most major cities and hire drivers that work for you. One tip is to map the quick save button to your controller and hit it every minute or two so one crazy driver doesn't ruin a load you've carried for 1000 miles.

Thanks for that Brian, IF I dive into this, I mat rely on some of your expertise now and again, if that's ok, being new to this I'm sure there is a learning curve....

Absolutely, I don't mind at all. More people playing means they may make it to my side of the country eventually.

If you’re talking about the American truck sim that’s on steam on PC? Than I own it with all the DLC locations. Beautiful game, and great experience. Recommend any sim racing wheel set instead of a controller or keyboard, but either would work okay.  I don’t play it much as I use too, but I still support the game as it’s one of the best at what it does. P.S I also love big rigs 👍🏻

That is exactly what I was wanting to know Dusty. I am really leaning into getting it. Just need to a little more research.  Thanks for your input

I think steam will be having another sale coming up soon. It’ll be really cheap to get then.

That would be good. Any deal where the cost is down helps as our Canadian ‘dollar’ isn’t worth anything now. 🙄

Thanks for that Frank, there are so many different systems out there. I am thinking I want a good shifter with the actual 18 spd style …. Hi Lo and splitter. A good set of pedals and thinking of a force feed back wheel …. BYW. The red Pete fits the bill too 😉

Does the game have any hazards? Such as deer's committing suicide, blizzards, 4 wheelers acting stupid, Jack Knifing, or a hundred other things can happen throughout the day.

My favorite one. There was a warning sign Right Lane Closed 3 Miles ahead. A women ignored or could not read English drove and then stopped right in front of the last Warning Sign with a 2-mile line of cars behind her.

The traffic AI is sketchy and does some questionable maneuvering. There are also random events like lane closures that can cause you to need to detour. There are also weigh stations you have to be sure to stop at or you will get fines.
