Steve H Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Hi all, as the title suggests, this is a replica of my BIL’s 71 Olds 442. I wanted to build this for him as a thank you for some very generous things he has done for my wife and I. One of those things was a trip to Barrett Jackson in 2018. As you will see, his 1:1 car is absolutely stunning. This was a build that I tried to push myself a bit for trying new things, and adding a bit more detail than usual. In particular, the interior received more attention. The build thread has more info and photos of the real car, and some of the ridiculous little things I added that no one will ever see. Well…unless you have a look😁. I will be handing this off to Wayne tomorrow night (Dec. 16) Interior: seat belts with retractors, 8 track with cassette, parking brake release, vent knobs in kick panel, high beam dimmer switch, flocked, seat adjust levers (forward/back), keys in ignition, BMF trim, 4 different colours of black Engine: wired and plumbed as close to 1:1 as I could get, heat stained heads at exhaust ports (I was quite pleased with how that turned out), moved washer fluid jug to driver side, rubber seal on top of air cleaner, removed AC and scratch built a heater box, brake fluid reservoir clip, hollowed air cleaner snorkel, alternator bracket, dip stick, I added a hood prop, which obviously the real car does not have. Exterior: paint is mica silver/pearl white(2 coats)/clear pearl(1 coat)/ then clear, all Tamiya, BMF trim, exhaust tips, back up lenses, tires were flat spotted to give the car “weight”, valve stems, custom decals for license plates and rear window decal. I will let the photos tell the rest of the story. A bit pic heavy, first 4 are the 1:1 link to build thread This is a really nice kit and builds up nicely. The only shortcomings (other than me…) the hood decals were not quite “black” a bit faded looking, which would likely just be my kit?, and the intake manifold has a considerably oversized hole to drop the upper rad hose into. I modified that to match the 1:1 car anyway. Thanks for taking the time to look. All comments and criticisms are welcome. Oh… and Happy Holidays to all of you and your families!_ 11 1
Perspective Customs Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 You nailed it. Love all the details. 1
Phildaupho Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Absolutely one of the finest model cars from the Victoria BC area which to those in the know really means from anywhere on the planet. Definitely a piece de resistance. 1
Doug 1061 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Well done. Your friend is gonna be tickled pink. 1
STU111 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 G’day Steve. I followed this on the WIP page and know how much you put into the build. The end result is simply stunning. Your brother in law will be blown away l’m sure when you present it to him. Top notch. 👍🏻 1
Lobo2me Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Excellent! One of the cleanest machines I've seen in a long time. Your BIL has a keeper! 1
Bainford Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Stellar! That is one beautiful Oldsmobile. Clean work and lovely detailing. It's a lot of work going the extra mile to get the details right, but as this model shows, it's definitely worth it. 1
XYHARRY Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 The extra details have this build looking 1:1. Very well done Steve. Cheers, David. 😎👍 1
satterwhite78 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 My brother in law and sister bought a 69 Olds Cutlass not long after they were married. I remember it was a clean bright white with a metallic lt. blue interior. It's stance sat a little taller than stock, white wall Michelin tires and was immaculate inside and out. That Olds stood out regardless of what or where it was parked. That is a Award winning build....and the diorama of your parking lot takes it to another level. 1
ncbuckeye67 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Wow, that's a perfect replica! I love these kinds of builds, especially when there as well done as yours. 1

lordairgtar Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Wowzers. I have to say the detail is outstanding. Especially the very carefully placed decals on the body. Very difficult to do in my book. XLNT job. I m sure your BIL was extremely pleased.
TransAmMike Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 That is just beautiful Steve. As a former '70 Cutlass S owner the '70 is dear to my heart. Great build 👍👍
