My instructor at school has a 68' Camaro SS, it's currently sitting in our body class shop waiting to be painted. I saw the AMT kit at Hobby Lobby and decided to build a tribute to his car.

My instructor is going to paint his Camaro Lexus 8U1 Ultrasonic Blue with silver racing stripes. After a little digging, I found that Scalefinishes has the exact color for models, I gotta order it today. Enjoy!

To start the build, I removed all the mold lines, marking them with a sharpie before sanding them down. 20241214_131237.thumb.jpg.cb7d1f1057deebbe88f5387cb9807f31.jpg20241214_131243.thumb.jpg.276c191b983962c8e4b4165c6f4e4072.jpg

After sanding them down I scribed the door lines. I always wind up missing a door line and mark the body, I applied bondo to all the spots I missed while scribing. I also glued the front valence panel (I think thats what its called) to the body and bondoed the seems. I'm not really sure if my instructor is planning on putting the spoiler on his Camaro, but I put it on anyways.

There's also a couple of low spots on the hood that were filled with bondo.

While letting the bondo cure, I carefully trimmed all the parts off their trees, and glued necessary pieces together like the engine, seats, axle, etc...

By this point the bondo had cured and I spent the forever long process of sanding and filing until I was satisfied with the results. Honestly everything turned out better than I thought.

The exhaust had to be bondoed and sanded too

Thats all I got for now, Thanks for looking!

Yes, that sounds like a nice color combo.

Awesome start! It will be sharp with the silver stripes over that blue.

I know! Thats what I told my instructor when he told me the color combo. The only problem I'm having is if he's painting the stripes like a normal Camaro, where the stripes are on the hood and trunk:

1968 Chevy Camaro SS/RS Blue White Stripe 3/4 Front On Grass ...

Or if he's gonna do 'em like the stripes on a newer Camaro, with the stripes going on the roof:

He should be able to tell you what style of stripes he's going with, unless this is supposed to be a surprise for your instructor. My want to verify that the chassis and front subframe will go into your kits body with the front roll pan already in place.

Yeah thats the problem, it's a surprise for him. While I was in school I'd just wait til' he'd start talking about his Camaro, and then ask questions about it. Thats how I found the paint code, he had me write the code down on a piece of paper while he was talking to the paint guy on the phone. When he wasn't looking, I wrote the code down on my own piece of paper. But we're on Christmas break so I can't secretly get information about the car anymore. Oh yeah I spent plenty of time measuring clearence on the Roll pan before I glued it in.
