fredo84 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 (edited) Hello Guys ! I would like to know if you can answer a question about this Chevelle El Camino ? The guys says that is an 1/24 Scale ... My question is ...is that a promo model ? Of some sort ? I asked for a chassis picture ..I'm waiting for an answer... Thanks a head for the input Edited February 19 by fredo84
SSNJim Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Concur, it's the kit. It looks like it has a separate hood, which generally indicates that it's a kit and not a promo.
espo Posted February 9 Posted February 9 AMT offered this '65 El Camino kit along with a '65 Chevelle wagon that shared much of the tooling. They both had a basic blob type small block engine with a couple of build options. The El Camino kit had an optional camper shell that represented one with an aluminum exterior finish. The kit would have had a chrome finish on the grill and bumpers and the pictures look like these may have been painted but easily corrected if need be.
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Same 1965 Elcamino kit that has been being re-popped over and over again since I was a kid. The latest incarnation is I believe this version which highlights the included camper. Steve
fredo84 Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 Alright ! Thanks for the input ! At 4$ I won't let it pass !
Carmak Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Added bonus, that is an early issue that has the separate chrome taillight bezels. So that is a somewhat uncommon version of a fairly common kit. 1
Jack L Posted February 10 Posted February 10 the early one has the 327 cross flags on the front fenders
fredo84 Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 I received the Camino . Here are new picture of it ...it has 4 screw for the pan ...broken steering wheel end just missing the shift lever ...separate seat instead of full bench 🤔 1
Mark Posted February 19 Posted February 19 That's a first issue kit, it doesn't have the cut line engraved on the underside of the hood for the supercharger option. The chassis screws may be in a subsequent issue or two, the separate taillight lenses went away in the mid-Seventies as did the "1965" on the bumpers. I'm not positive on the promo, but the kit always had bucket seats. It's not an SS though. El Caminos could be had with the bucket seats and (later) the 396 engine. But they weren't available as an SS until '68. The wagon and El Camino are different tooling from one another, though parts do interchange. The engines are a bit different here and there, as are the chassis. The little parts tree with the supercharger parts is the same, and floats back and forth between the two kits.

Notice the El Camino trim on the rear quarter panel. The bucket seats mentioned by Mark were an extra cost option and the SS trim wasn't offered on the El Caminos until the '68 model year. Many would buy and install the SS hoods and add the SS markings to personalize their El Caminos. Looking at the installation of the intake manifold the original builder seems to have been a Ford fan or know little about the small block Chevrolet engines as the distributor should be at the rear of the engine. besides mounting the intake backwards, as you can see the spot for the upper radiator hose at the rear of the engine and they may have had to drill a hole for the oil fill tube, and it is mounted pointed at the wrong side of the car as well. Still and all this is a great find at a more than reasonable price. Shouldn't be much of a challenge to clean it up and do a few fixes and have a really nice model to show for it.
