Just having some fun with a flea market find.😜

IMG_7111.jpeg
Stock roof, luckily not glued to the body!

IMG_6305.jpeg
With a 2-3/4” chop and 12-3/4” roof stretch.

IMG_6316.jpeg
Lots and lots of filing/sanding later.

IMG_6318.jpeg
Assessing the potential?

IMG_6322.jpeg
Decided to slant the B pillars like Chevys and Plymouths.😳

IMG_6338.jpeg
I think I see potential now?

IMG_6345.jpeg
Gotta work on that seam!😬

IMG_6757.jpeg
That blended better than I had hoped.

IMG_6844.jpeg
Roof looks a little bulbous so it needs a pancake job.

IMG_6845.jpeg

IMG_6846.jpeg
Eeewwww!😬

IMG_6970.jpeg
A bit of primer makes a huge difference.

IMG_6976.jpeg
And finally…4-1/2” sectioned off the bottom of the body and hood sides. Rear fenders separated and lowered with the body. That’s it for now.

Wow! That makes a huge difference to the look of the car. Love it. Very nice work keeping all the body lines intact during the filling and sanding. Cool project Greg.

You had me right up til the wheels, not my cup of tea. That roofline is great looks fast sitting still.

Thanks Bil. Those were sitting on the bench so I grabbed them for a quick mockup. I don’t dislike them but I think big and littles might look better?

Thanks Steve. I wasn’t even planning to build this one…just decided to experiment with a roof stretch for giggles. But now I’m beginning to think it has potential?

Greg is it my imagination or was the majority vote against the slanted "B" pillars on your other 36 Ford build.🤔 But then again Jim hasn't chimed in so maybe that will tip the scales🤣

I don’t believe the “vote” was against it. The more I refine it the better it looks in my eye. The slanted B pillar does give it a slightly Chevy or Plymouth vibe?…not a bad thing I think, but die-hard Ford fans may get their panties in a knot?😳 I figured it deserves its own thread in case I continue to pursue it.

For a long time, I would look at cars of this era and think that they might look better with a longer roof. Its something that is on my build list, but Ive never acted on it.

But you have answered my question and I really like it. Good job!

I guess that moves this project up on the build list 😁

Thought your Spillchick messed up the title. 🤭  One reason my Mercedes G666 BenutzerdefiniertHinterntretenJadgAktenvernichterGeländewagenLimousine WIP is stalled, not sure about my chop job.  Are you using JB Weld?

No Kurt, the black stuff is sprue glue made with the spue from the same kit. When completely dry (which takes a long time even in the dehydrator) it should have the same consistency as the rest of the body…not that it matters since I have used  Evergreen also.

Edit: You should get back on that Mercedes Kurt, it is coming along nicely!😎

Sprue glue is an art form of its own when it comes to working on some of these older kits with horrible fitment issues. I use the old testors glass bottles to mix mine in, then I can add to it and keep the batch going kinda like sourdough bread hahah. I really like the look of this Greg, it’s got the right vibe for a full rear wheel skirt tail dragger!

Thank you for the explanation.

Yea, but at the moment I'm remodeling my back yard, since the weather is perfect for it, 60ºF and dry so the red clay dirt is easy to dig.  I'm in a ultra lack of inspiration to build anything other than rockets, and that's on hold.  I will also be getting another car, so that will get my full attention for awhile, plus Blue Cloud is getting something done soon.  I've heard from many guys, who said they were never busier in their life after retiring, I think it's something to do with age. 😏
