Jürgen M. Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 (edited) Thanks very much Guys! I really appreciate it! I'm really glad you like what I'm doing! That shows me, I'm doing something right! For me that's one of the primary reasons to be here, sharing the happiness about building models, especially trucks and getting the same feeling when looking at all your builds that make me happy cause you guys have the same attitude! Thanks again and keep going. I honestly enjoy watching your builds and reading your comments, not only on mine! 👍 Edited March 5 by Jürgen M. 1

As others have said, your skills in both designing and printing keep getting better and better. Looking at your work, it makes me think that maybe I should be working with PLA instead of resin! Especially now that my printer has been down for weeks due to a failed LCD screen! Hey Ron, sorry about your printer! Hope you get your screen fixed soon. Working with PLA certainly has its advantages but the surface quality of resin prints is just far better. I've been thinking a lot about purchasing a resin printer but definetly one with water soluble resin. Just don't want the smell of the solvents and I've been told they're as good as the solvent based resins! Haven't decided yet though. Thanks for your comment on my skills. Glad its visible for others that there's been improvement in my work. I think one of the most effective measures was taking the sleeper apart for printing. That way you don't get print lines. Other parts are sometimes hard to position in the slicer when there are more visible sides. I just try to chose the side that will be less visible. I hope to find more ways to improve the parts quality. Sometimes it just takes a while till you get the right idea! Edited March 5 by Jürgen M. 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Engine installed, exhaust connected, Radiator connected, steering box connected to steering. Works! VID_20250305_144616.mp4 2
Jürgen M. Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 I primered the cab and other parts. The sleeper looks pretty smooth. Couldn't reduce the print lines on the cab and the hood any more though. The stuff is just too hard! An additional coat of filler primer might help but I won't be able to get them away totally. The decals will cover up a bit too. Maybe I'll have to knock down the cab too on the next projects. It did work for the sleeper! 2
RoninUtah Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Those layer lines are tough to get rid of, especially if you’re using a hard resin or filament. It kind of looks like woodgrain- it takes a lot of sanding, and you don’t want to send too much of the detail off. Adding a good heavy layer of clearcoat after you paint it helps. That said, your cab looks great! Keep up the awesome work! 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 Thank you Ron. You're absolutely right! It's almost impossible to sand away those lines without ruining details! I'll put a layer of filler primer on, then base coat and a clear coat. What's left to see then I don't care. I'm sure it'll still come out ok! 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 6 Author Posted March 6 (edited) Wheels are on. The quarter fenders aren't glued yet. They have to be worked on before I permanently put them in place! There's a gap in the frame where they'll be installed. Cab mocked up. Filler primer and first layer of base coat will hopefully be applied this weekend! Edited March 6 by Jürgen M. 2
freightshaker2 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Looking good Jurgen! its impressive how you're doing this. Keep up the great work! 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 A bit of progress: Front mud flaps, quarter fenders, pogo stick are in place. Tail lights, licence bracket, rear mud flaps (the flaps are from the Ertl Mack DM800, brackets self made). Don't know what those things behind the fifth wheel are called, I call them slide rails. Also self made! 5
Jürgen M. Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 Got a bit of painting done. Filler primer: Base coat: Looks a bit Green but it's Revell no. 12 (yellow gloss). And the bumper came out quite nice: Some parts, like the hood, still need lots of attention! 5
Jürgen M. Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 These will be the stacks! Aluminium and brass tubes Assembled: Tomorrow they'll be chromed! These cable ties will be the tank straps: 3
Gary Chastain Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Enjoy your builds, you don’t need to buy no stinking kits, you just make your kits. 🏆🏆🏆 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 An in between mock-up with the painted cab and headache rack: 3
cifenet Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Fantastic job, Jürgen! You are manufacturing these trucks like a well operated factory would! Fast and reliable at the same time. Looking very proper and I actually like the bright yellow paint job too. 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 A bit of progress yesterday evening: Stacks are chromed: Cab is mounted, air cleaners completed, ... ...and connected! 4
The Brush Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I have been following this build, It`s fascinating to see it come together. Well done & as always your a master with the printer
freightshaker2 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Good lookin heavy haul! This thing is coming right along and your stocks look great! It'll be a real beast when you finish!
Jürgen M. Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Here's a bit more: Self made hand rails: Stacks are mounted: Mirror brackets made of 0.5mm brass rod: 3
Jürgen M. Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 Put the wipers and mirrors in place! Also added an antenna to the sleeper! Prepared the cable ties for mounting the fuel tanks! The tanks will be made of 25mm aluminium tubes with fitting caps at the ends. I'm also giving the hood a last chance! Or myself! 😊 I don't know what I did wrong compared to the cab but I just didn't get the hood as smooth as I wanted. I sanded it down once more and primered it. Hope it comes out better this time! No matter how it turns out it won't be my final plan! Bren is printing the hood for me in his resin printer which will make the hood smooth as a baby's butt! Thanks very very much Bren! I'm really anxious to see how it turns out! I'll finish this up with the ugly hood anyway but it will be easy to exchange it wenn the resin part comes. Also the decals I will apply can be reproduced easily so there won't be much effort in exchanging hoods! 3
Jürgen M. Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 Fuel tank mock-up: The ends are still on their way! Should arrive tomorrow! Hope they look good! It's just a try of something new! 3
Jürgen M. Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 Decals applied. A mock-up to see how it will look when I have the resin hood! Then I will put the bulldog on top and a few other details that I don't want to waste like turning signals, "Superliner" emblems, ...! This hood is a bit warped and the surface is not so nice to look at! The head lights are just attached with double sided tape so I can take them off easily again. I decided to give it a not so typical look by using single lamps instead of the common double rectangulars. 1
