carsntrucks4you Posted March 10 Posted March 10 (edited) This is a 1986 - 1990 Ford Escort RS Turbo. It was the top model of the Escort. The engine was a 1600cc fuel-injected CVH engine taken from the S1 Turbo but now fitted with the Garret T3 turbo (water-cooled, unlike the S1), revised engine management settings, lower overall gearing, an improved gearbox and limited-slip differential, a larger clutch and improved KE Jetronic unit and inter-cooler. Suspension and chassis changes included stiffer front and rear springs, uprated anti-roll bars, mechanical ABS and larger brakes. The S2 car produced an impressive 132bhp at 5750 rpm, with maximum torque of 133 lb/ft produced at 2750 rpm, giving it ample performance with a top speed of 125 mph and a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds. DonW Posted March 17 Posted March 17 About as fast as a BMW 2002tii from fifteen years earlier and with nasty torque steer into the bargain. No thanks!☺️
peteski Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Obviously is a European car with the looks of its contemporary American Ford Mustang. I always earn new things here.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 18 Posted March 18 The European Escort from this time period wasn't a bad little car, nimble and fun to drive even if not blazingly fast. The US version, that shared almost nothing with its European counterpart, was one of the least inspiring econoboxes I've ever driven, feeling cheap, heavy, and slow.
Matt Bacon Posted March 18 Posted March 18 Did you guys get the same Focus — the successor to the Escort — as us? Everything Bill says about the Escort goes redoubled in spades for the Focus Mk1 (and later). Especially the ST170 and RS versions… best, M.
