More often than not, when I want some entertainment, I go on YouTube. Problem: almost everything is loaded with ads, which I can't stand (haven't watched TV in over two years 'cuzza that).  There are (supposedly) some very good ad blockers out there, but there are rumors that YouTube may not let you access content if you have one, and I'm not going to "upgrade" to YouTube's ad-free option.

Recommendations?

Bonus question:  also need an ad blocker for my iphone (mostly for YouTube).  Will most/all work with Apple stuff?

Every workout I came up with to block ads on youtube was a short term fix. I finally just went the Premium route which I suspect is their motive to begin with. I don't have cable, or a TV for that matter but still like to watch the occasional thing on youtube. I use Youtube more like a jukebox than anything.

AdBlock. It's free, I have it on my desktop comouter, but have no idea what its effectiveness is on smartphones - I pretty much only use my smartphone to see incoming emails. Youtube attempts to load ads, fails outright the first time, and in its second effort, I see a "Skip Ad" button to click within 2 seconds or less. Used to be I'd never see ads there at all, but that company seems to have won some small battle in the ad loading wars ....

If you use firefox you have more options. I run ublock origin, ad block plus and facebook container and I never get ads on any sites. The facebook container makes sites with facebook buttons load faster as it cuts out the tracking.
