Finecast Wire Wheels Secrets

I am in the home stretch (or at least close) building a Finecast MG Magnette K3. This has been more challenging to get right than their Lotus Seven but now I am at the same point for both kits: making wire wheels. Finecast includes kits for wire wheels for the MG but this is eroding my patience. The wire wants to slip off the included sort-of-jig as I loop the wire. Also, the wire has small kinks that form weak points that want to snap when the wire is put under tension. Has anyone successfully built Finecast wire wheels and perhaps have tips on how I might preserve my sanity? Thanks!
