FujimiLover Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Anybody watching? Anyway, I got the seats in, dashboard mounted, and the door hinges operating. Although, the door hinges dont' operate as smoothly as one would hope and not sure how to fix it. I just hope I've got it lined up properly enough so that when I start assembling this together with the body, that it'll work nicely and fit nicely! Opened position: Closed position:
FujimiLover Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Some more updates! I added some decal's to the body. I decided to GLUE the rear bumper in place rather than trying to deal with those pesky odd angled screws. I started assembly of the chassis. I predict this model to be finished on the weekend! I didn't realize this Diablo was AWD! Gold Koenig badge saved from another model. Tail light stickers. Yes, they want you to use stickers AND then paint the red/orange on the clear lense. I guess this gives it a brighter truer effect?
RodneyBad Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 is that a 1 piece door hinge or can one function with out the other? Body and interior is looking good. Maybe your suppose to screw on the bumpers and then glue on the added one?
FujimiLover Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) It is two hinges so they work independently, which also unfortunetly made it tough to install as you had to somehow hold one in place while working with the other. Anyway, these are the best teaser-shot's I can give you. The chassis, interior, and engine compartments are all finished. I even had success with the decals for the rims! Now you'll just have to imagine this with the body on it! Tried to get a close-up of the decal's. On the rim it reads O.Z. Racing, and center cap has the KS logo. KS Logo on center of steering wheel. I decided to paint the valve-covers red. Why not? Beleive it or not, this is my first Lamborghini build! And steering is pose-able although not much. Edited May 12, 2009 by FujimiLover
FujimiLover Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Done a little more body work, and clear-coated it. I decided this time to clear coat the body, THEN paint in the semi-gloss black trim. Weired reflections here, but trust me, look's killer in person! Italian style liscence plate!
vizio93 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 wow that looks really good. the same color wheels look really good on it. keep up the good work !!!
FujimiLover Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Thank you. It's almost finished but the doors are giving me hell, and something about the interior together with the chassis that's not lineing up properly with the body. It's been giving me a headache and it's time to quit for the day. I'm tempted to just glue the doors together, but at the same time, the drivers side door does not seem to close all the way and I don't know if it's something I did wrong, or if they made a mistake when molding the door. When I rest the doors in place, the passanger side is perfect, but the drivers side has a big gap. I wonder if they intend the doors to remain open and to never close. Also, for all the detail they put into the engine comparment, "not that there's much," they make it nearly impossible to open it once all is together! Anyway, here are some pictures for you. OH yea, and while handling all this, I accidently rubbed off the O.Z. decals on one side of the car.
FujimiLover Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) Chassis, I've yet to put in the exaust pipes Showing you the mis-lined door. The perfect door, although not bolted to the hinge yet. Another frusterating task. See the gap? Sorry for all the pictures, and no it's not ready to be under "glass" yet. I'm trying to get all these angles to see if I can find where it's not lined up properly. Is it possible Fujimi screwed up with this door? You can also see by the gap in the front fenders that one side is higher than the other and that might have something to do with it as well. I've checked, double checked my screw work and haven't yet found anything wrong. A little side note, I've always have had trouble with screws and that might be the case here, I dont' know yet. But I think it's quitting time for today before I really snafu! Edited May 13, 2009 by FujimiLover
vizio93 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) wow that looks killer. i think that fujimi could have intended the doors to be open because when you show it off to your friends you most likely will open the doors to show them the interior. anyway i think it still looks really good. i think you should have a pic with all the koenig's build's that you've done. FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 Thank you. All four "king's" will get together for a groupe photo when the Diablo is finished. I may just save my selfe the headaches tomarrow and glue'em doors shut. I plan on leaving the drivers side window out as if it was rolled down and out of sight. I'm hoping when I do my KS Countach, it won't be as difficult, although I suspect being alot more parts, and much more detailed, it will probably be the most frusterating kit yet. Still not even sure I want to attempt that one! When the Diablo is finished, I still have three more KS kit's to build. My 911, Competition Spider, and the detailed Countach! I think my next project will be my wide-bodied MR2.
vizio93 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 hey that sounds great. i would love to see the competition spider built. what does the box look like of it?
FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 hey that sounds great. i would love to see the competition spider built. what does the box look like of it? And here's a picture of the real thing. My previous Spider was built like this, but didn't turn out anywhere near as nice as my white KS 500 SL did. I might try this same look again, or I might replicate my red Coupe, just in topless form. The 911, will look identical to this one here, useing Model Master's Guards Red.
FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 I think for my Diablo's drivers door, I might have to CA glue the top of it and force it into place with the CA insta-set spray. Hopefully, I won't mess anything up when I do that Will give it more thought tonight and tomarrow.

Or just close one and leave the other one open? It looks much brighter today. and very sharp. nice.
FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 I haven't even bolted the doors onto the hinges yet. But following the instructions, I adjusted the hinges according to how they wanted it. I dont' think it's a hing-problem since the door doesn't even fit properly when just resting against the car.
torinobradley Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 It appears in the pictures that the window frame on the door is warped. Is this the case? If so, you may be able to gently heat it up a bit with a hair dryer and persuade it back to where it needs to go.
FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) I've looked at that myselfe and I can't really tell. It could be just the way the front windshield is mounted into place that it appears warped. I think it look's good enough I'm not going to risk it by heating it up. Heat might damage the finish I've got on it already. I'll attempt the doors again later today. I would eventually like to build another one of these kit's and modify it to look like this one here. FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 KS Diablo nearly complete! I decided I didn't want to fight with the door hinges, so I removed'em and glued the doors in place. I was able to glue the drivers side door flush with the body. I added the windshield wipper, KS logo on window, and exaust pipes. I'm now just waiting for the paint on the tail-lights to dry and as soon as I mount those on, it'll be ready to go under glass. See? No gap! Waiting for tail-lights to dry.
FujimiLover Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 When I put this under glass, do you want it by itselfe, or with the other three king's?
vizio93 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 i think you should do a couple of pics of it by itself then some with all three.
FujimiLover Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 I think I know what is wrong with the Diablo's fitment. Unfortunetly, it is too late to fix it and I dont' want to mess with it any more. That is when I start screwing thing's up worse! Since the interior and engine compartment are bolted to the body, I dont' think it has anything to do with that. I have noticed that my front bumper isn't lined up and mounted flush like it should be. I think since the front of the chassis slides into a slot on the front bumper, I think that is what is "warping" the chassis and causing the mis-alignment. While it maybe too late to fix this one, at least I'll know what to look for whenever I get around to do the convertible version!
beefheart22 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Hey Fuj, I like your idea of the clear coat over the flat-black seats. Definitely makes them look legit. I might have to try that my self... Finish is looking good too. That clear coat really gave it that sheen! Doors look good to me. Edited May 15, 2009 by beefheart22
FujimiLover Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Hey Fuj, I like your idea of the clear coat over the flat-black seats. Definitely makes them look legit. I might have to try that my self... Finish is looking good too. That clear coat really gave it that sheen! Doors look good to me. The doors only look great cause their glued into place and I was fortunet to be able to flatten that top bit and close the gap. The CA-glue with insta-cure is great help for fixing little thing's like this as long as your carefull with what your doing. The clear-coating over flat-black almost look's like semi-gloss black, or between semi and flat. I noticed some clear-coats dont' give the same effect as others. What you want is a gloss clear coat laqure, at least the one from Model Master's seems to work well. The Tamiya clear coat just dries clear with no extra gloss that I've noticed. I tried it on the chassis, and it looked the same as before.
