Count me in for one of those Blazers! Either a 4 door to do a correct replica of that Mooneyes truck I saw in Truckin' Magazine back in 1995, or a 2 door to do a "what if" version of that truck!!!

Amt did a promo of that truck.

I have to wonder if that S Blazer 'promo' was one of the Flying Dutchman tools - printed to fill the orders, but never seen again like the Chevy full size OBS.

Bought one because I'm a glutton for punishment and the local shop had them in stock last time I was in.

New grille looks okay AND has a bit better means of attachment to the body vs. the original grille. Watch out for the original front bumper (round fog lamps).

Still includes the bench seat with floor shifter and console cup holder, so I'm happy. That's always been my favorite part about the kit anyway.

Decals look nice ... A shame that the license plate graphics look more appropriate for 1:20 scale. That's almost as big of a pet peeve for me as incorrect wheel diameter but your mileage may vary. You also get more comprehensive graphics for the dash than just the instrument cluster.

I take exception to the word "authentic" showing up twice on the box considering the fact that the interior was not updated but that's mostly just me being silly. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

From what I’ve read, the tooling was rented out by AMT/ERTL.  They never actually owned the tooling and once the production run was done, it vanished into the big black hole where Jimmy Hoffa lives.

They still have the OBS tooling. It was modified into the USA-1 monster truck.

Yea, that definitely looks like the '90 long box cab, box and interior for sure.

The engine looks to be based on the original tooling. Chassis looks quite different though. I wonder if it was modified from the original long box chassis plate or a new tooling?

RE: the USA-1 kit

It would seem the long bed chassis was permanently altered to be the monster truck chassis, since it has not been seen again after the USA-1 kit was first released. However, the short bed and stepside kits were released afterwards (probably to replace the long bed kit), but were last seen around the early 2000s (the stepside). It looks like the short bed 454SS kit only had one run for some reason. Seeing as the molds have most likely been lost, it would be nice to see them make new full detail kits from either the old kits, or completely new 3D files. They could also use the recent short bed and dually kits and engineer full detail versions to save some work.

I think the 454SS was run at least twice Jordan. The one I used to build my silver and white truck was molded in black and the unbuilt one I have is molded in off-white.

Maybe 2 runs using the same box art?

I only have the molded in black kit, so good to know there was at least two runs.

Interesting. I've only ever seen those kits molded in black, kit #6032, released in 1991. Even if they did multiple runs through the early to mid '90s, I've only seen the one box art version with the '91 copyright on it, and they were always molded in black plastic.

I know AMT released a few promos with the standard cab, short bed Fleetside body style, like the Brickyard 400 Pace Truck (which happened to be white). But those were promos, not full detail  kits.

Most curious. If anyone has an AMT 454SS glue kit in the original box that is molded in anything but black, I'd love to see pics.

You can ask anyone in here DJ, I don't post a comment like that without knowing it's a fact. I've done that too many times in the past and got called out. I don't like being called out so , , ,

I certainly wasn't calling anyone out. I had just not seen those kits in anything but black plastic. I've built a lot of them. I have 3 or 4 of them in the stash, bought at various times over the last 25+ years, and all of them are molded in black. Well, except for the one that's still sealed. For all I know, that one could be molded in gray.

Thanks for posting the pic.

I have both, one in black the other in grey, besides the color of the plastic, the grille and bumpers are cut from throme tree, so they're not plated on the black one.

The gray one, no cutting whatsoever, all is chrome as per standard C1500 (longbox and stepside)

The other difference is the logo on the box art, black has the original amt logo with ertl added, the gray the modernized version with capital AMT.

Cheers
