That looks outstanding to me! If you had trouble with the Tamiya version, I'm really worried about the old AMT version I picked up at a swap meet ....

It goes together as well as the other Trophies from the era - which is to say, pretty darn well.

Today, there is a ton of reference info on the interwebs for 300SL Gullwings, just take your time and fit everything carefully, may need to enhance certain kit features.

I like it!  The photos make it look really nice.  Sadly, I know all too well that there is no such thing a perfect build & even all the models that I've built over the decades, no matter how good I thought I had gotten, there's always things that go wrong & yes, we often are our own worst critics & always see & know where the mistakes are.  But you have the correct attitude to just deal with them & learn & have just fun doing it.  I don't focus on mistakes, just minimize them & focus on & appreciate the things that went right.  I would have no problem displaying this on my shelf.  The detailing & colors & finishes looks very nice.  Great looking Benz SL !

I appreciate your words and do subscribe to ideas above. If I showed you the 1” horrific patch job on the trunk and an angle showing the tilt to the right… yikes.

Looks great to me! I was thinking about painting my Tamiya 300SL the same color. I really like the interior color too.

Good stuff. Please share when you do.  The red interior is LP21 Italian Red with a touch of Blue, then darkened/lightened with Black or White - depending upon much Blue you add (doesn’t take much!)

I felt like a fraud and that I didn’t belong when I first joined. There are a lot of good/frienly/helpful modellers here who have helped me so much - especially in the beginning.

It really looks fantastic. We have to remember that repainting has always been around, on summer vacation when I was 14(1980) we went after the fairground to a car book store that was only open Saturday morning and Wednesday evening. There and then a friend of the shop owner came with his blue gull wing, the paint was improved in several places, including around the windshield wipers but he really drove it.

This is a high quality kit and deserved my best effort, the build flaws were only revealed during final assembly.  The paint disaster happened shortly after.

It would be nice to build another one at some point in the future.  Just have to whittle away at the stash, first.

Yeah, I'll definitely heed your advice. It's always been one of my favorites

It’s all good. As has been mentioned by other members, we are our own worst critics.  When I look at my own builds my eyes go immediately to the flaws.  When I look at other modellers’ work I see all the good qualities.

We have sports psychologists, so why not ones for model makers? :)
