Biggu Posted July 2 Posted July 2 You did a GREAT job on that trailer JM !! And in lightning time as well. It is a bit of a difficult kit to get everything line up straight and correct but you nailed it. I’m excited for the new cabs too. This will be a great addition to the convoy.
Jürgen M. Posted July 2 Author Posted July 2 Thanks Pal! I do hope the cabs arrive soon! My hands always get a bit shaky when I'm in the middle of a build but can't work in it! 1
Jürgen M. Posted July 12 Author Posted July 12 Since the cabs still haven't arrived and I hate sitting around in the little bit of free time I have I began to work on something else! I took this old DAF 2800 NTT Cattleman apart. The more I looked at it during the past weeks and months the more I hated it. I like the truck type but not what I made of it back then. I'll turn it into a regular N2800. An everyday working horse. When it's finished I'll post it under glass. Didn't want to open up a thread here for it. It's just to fill up waiting time till I can get back to the IH! 4
Jürgen M. Posted Thursday at 02:37 PM Author Posted Thursday at 02:37 PM (edited) I'm back! 😎 Means, my cabs have arrived and I can now proceed with the IH. Thanks again Bren! (He printed 4 more cabs and sent them here after we realized that the first parcel definetly had gotten lost!) I took the best print and immediately began to work with it. Step rails on the lower sides of the cab, then the first coat of filler primer. That will be gently sanded (parts are extremely brittle) then a second coat of primer, then flat white, then gloss white then decals and clear coat! This is fun again! BK9300 Posted Thursday at 05:18 PM Posted Thursday at 05:18 PM Going to look really good, Jürgen! 1 1
Biggu Posted Thursday at 07:25 PM Posted Thursday at 07:25 PM Glad you are back on this one buddy. You have enough for a small fleet now ! This will be sweet. 1
Jürgen M. Posted Saturday at 03:19 PM Author Posted Saturday at 03:19 PM I made some progress on the cab. It's not as smooth as I hoped but it doesn't matter. It'll be one a shelf behind glass so it will hardly be visible. With the decals on it looks a bit better. This evening, when the decals are absolutely dry, I'll apply the clear coat so it has enough time to cure over night. 2
Biggu Posted Saturday at 04:10 PM Posted Saturday at 04:10 PM Glad the cabs arrived finally, and the decals look great. And when coupled to the trailer will be really sweet. Good job pal !! 1
Jürgen M. Posted yesterday at 10:15 AM Author Posted yesterday at 10:15 AM Got a few parts in the cab. Now it's final assembly! Mirrors have to be printed, brackets will be made of 1mm brass rod. Then fitting in the lower grille and bumper, attach wipers, door handles, ... Had to lengthen the air intake a bit. The windshield is made of 0.7mm transparent foil. Side windows also. 1
Biggu Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Holy JM. That is coming together fast. I like the color combo, and that is a s/a with a sleeper. You did an excellent job on the windshield. What material did you use. I think I need to find some as yours seemed to conform beautifully to the curves. Good job my friend.
Jürgen M. Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago (edited) Thanks Jeff! I actually did have a big enough piece of 0.7mm foil. Unfortunately I can't find the link to the page I always ordered the stuff from. If I could only remember the name! I just cut it a bit longer than necessary and when I glued it in it perfectly pressed itself inte place without getting white marks from bending it. Got the sun visor, lower grille and the center window strut into place! Now the bumper needs attention. An adapter will be neccessary. Still to be designed! Edited 20 hours ago by Jürgen M. 1
Biggu Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Thanks pal , I’d be interested in the clear film if you can find a link. The sun visor changes the look of the truck completely, in a very good way. There are some kits that scream for a sunvisor, like the AMT Mack and the AMT Western Star kits to name but a couple.
Jürgen M. Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Bumper fits perfectly! Wipers are printed and chromed and will be attached later. The side steps are attached too. Next will be the mirror brackets. I noticed that I forgot to design the door latches into the cab so I'll have to think of something. Probably 0.5mm styrene sheet cut to size and chromed. Then the fog lights below the bumper, grab handles on the sides and in front and a bit of touch up here and there and it goes off onto the shelf! I know I rushed a bit to get it done and it's not my normal building quality but I'm glad when it's finished! Edited 19 hours ago by Jürgen M. 2
Biggu Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Single stack and single air horn really changes it from the normal cab over... lots of changes to admire here and all very subtle.... another cool conversion.... 1
BK9300 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago You've got to be pleased with where your build is now, given the long wait for your cab - the rest of the details shouldn't take you too much longer! 1 1
Jürgen M. Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago (edited) OK, this is it! Ready for 'under glass' and the shelf: Joining the convoy! Next to the original: Edited 6 hours ago by Jürgen M.
