FoMoCo66 Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Looks cool, now you need a mustang 2 front suspension to go with that motor. 1
Chris B Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Looking forward to watching this one progress. I've got this one tucked away in the stash for a future build. 1

I am going with the stock suspension on all 4 corners, trying to keep with a sleeper look. 2 hours ago, Chris B said: Looking forward to watching this one progress. Gives me the ability to think things through when I run into a wall. 1
meechum68 Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 Got the front suspension put together, and rear springs mounted. Hoping to get the roller part set and then do a little more massaging to get the engine to sit right, and then it's radiator mounting. Once that is done, then I can turn fully to the body work and paint.
meechum68 Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 Got some good bench time today. Things are shaping up. 3

I wasn't sure on the wheels, was looking at magnesium style slots but felt it wasn't quite right for this build. I will be matching the wheels to the body, flat black, but the trim ring will match the frame of Light Gunmetal. I have center caps coming for the rally's and either will go, flat black or light Gunmetal (leaning light gunmetal tbh) But I do like the look of the rally's without a center cap.

meechum68 Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 Yeah, I just like the trying to be true to the era, until you open the hood.
Justin Porter Posted August 25 Posted August 25 The October 1999 issue of SAE had a really killer article about combining the Galaxie Limited Aerosedan and the AMT '68 El Camino Street Machine to make a modern street rod out of the classic Chevy. The wheel & tire package they used in the article was from one of the snap kits of the Dodge Copperhead concept. Your build really calls that article to mind. Looking forward to seeing what happens next! 1

Been a fun learning experience. @johnyrotten So I took a gander tonight with my "wheel backs" and I will be using the center caps. May shoot them light gun metal, as it will off set the black wheel, and look good with the trim rings. 1
meechum68 Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Finally some work to post on this. Started on some of the interior stuff. Got things in prime for the wheels and will get them painted soon. Interior is Tamiya, Grey primer, Mica Silver and Orange metallic. It's gonna pop nicely against a flat black body. 3
customline Posted September 11 Posted September 11 I see, fro m the photos, that your firewall looks like it is installed. Did you find any issues with the way it fits? The kit I bought a few years ago (and haven't built yet) has an issue with the v-shaped stop on the underside of the cowl. If you have not experienced this issue, maybe it was resolved but I wanted to mention it. 1

So in that picture it was taped in, and I just mounted it to the floor pan, and when I did my dry fit tests, it stopped nicely against the V-stop under the cowl. Now that I have it glued and ready to be primed, now that will be the teller of truths. I did some sanding one the body, mold lines, put the grill and headlight buckets in place, since this will be a murdered out look, with the metallic orange interior, just have to make sure it's clean. I have the frame on wheels. Will do the rest of the suspension bits and bobs soon as well. Gotta shoot some into primer, and then the colors I plan for them. So far I am running basically 5 colors, black, flat black, mica silver, metallic orange and gunmetal.

I changed my mind on the color for these. I will get pictures tomorrow and show you. @customline after the firewall set on the tub, I had to shave the V down in order for it to fit right. A little shave with the knife and it's good to go. Tbh, things that I have used from the stock build have fit nicely. 1

I wanted you to find this little woopsie. I spotted it the day it arrived (a self-inflicted Christmas present 🙂) and I shaved it off before putting it back in the box. Considering the price of this kit, I was incensed when I found this defect but the rest of it looked excellent. I think I may build it soon. I'm glad yours is going well and I like where it's going. It's a very cool subject. Mine will be a stock build but only because the '47 Aero is personally significant. Edit: if I ever find this kit at Ollie's, I will absolutely buy three more. 😏 Edited September 19 by customline 1

I do want to do a stock one as well. I don't mind minor issues, just get annoyed when there are bigger issues, but hey we are modelers and we will make it work. 1

I may change my mind, when the time comes, and chop that puppy. 😉 2

It's a pretty difficult surgery, Michael. I have a '51 Fleetline to practice on. I'll get it on the bench soon and see if I'm up to it. A "proof of concept" build, so to speak. If that goes well then the '47 will be in danger. 🥴 1

meechum68 Posted Saturday at 01:38 PM Author Posted Saturday at 01:38 PM Thanks John! I wanted to avoid a bland look with the look I am going for. There will be very few chrome pieces just for accent purposes. 1
