Valve cover hoses?

Hi everyone I'm trying as best as I can to scour the interwebs for the answer to a burning question, what are the hoses coming out of the valve covers connected to?

Here's a couple pics of top fuel engines, they use the frame rail as a catch can. Some applications actually require a vacuum pump due to the pressures created in the crankcase. The last image is the ramchargers car, so old school setup. It will vary depending on application, this is one way they do things.
