afxawb2 Posted Tuesday at 06:38 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:38 PM What color recommended for Prudhomme's Skoal Bandit Pontiac funny car-do not use air brush-rattle can-Thanks in advance guys, Larry
Leo64 Posted Wednesday at 08:50 AM Posted Wednesday at 08:50 AM Doing a Google search it says the color was a Burgundy red color. There was a comment that it was a solid color, and another that said it was metallic, so you might have to check for some reference pics to see which it was. I don't know of any hobby spray paints out there, but you might try MCW to see if they offer a close color in a spray can. Another option is if you have an auto supply store nearby that sells Dupli Color, you might find a close color in their line. I know you said you didn't use an airbrush, but Scalefinishes can probably get you an exact match. He has the Skoal green color listed on his site. You could also buy the paint from Scalefinished and look at something like the Preval Sprayer (see the attached pic). Some people have also found a close color at the hardware store, but I've not had much luck using the paint from there on a model, but have seen some models online that have done some nice finishes. Dave G. Posted Wednesday at 02:25 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:25 PM (edited) Supposedly it was a custom color painted by a company named Dream Machine. No specification. But I've seen online photos of the car at various tracks, in various lighting, looking from just dark red to royal burgundy. Undoubtedly there was more than one body as well, if not cars. It does look to be a solid color, non metallic, much like a red that Ford had around 1969-1970ish called Royal Maroon.. Lots of manufacturers had a maroon through the years, though, pick one that looks close I guess ! Here is a chip of Royal Maroon Edited Wednesday at 02:30 PM by Dave G. 1

I don't know about the Top Fuel dragster, but Chuck Boerner of Chuck's Vintage Drag Racing Decals on Facebook recently showed the decals for the Funny Car to go with the new release by Atlantis for the Don Prudhomme 1985 Funny Car kit. He also showed a bunch of other decals to go with the Atlantis kit. Steve A.
