Oliver77 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 We begin as tradition demands! I epoxy tire weight lead into the motor. Motors are heavy, right? 1
Oliver77 Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 Chassis pan. I was not confidant about stock tie rod length leading to unaligned front wheels, so I cut the rod and sleeved it. After assembly I aligned the wheels and glued the sleeve. Worth it? 2
Oliver77 Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 I sprayed the interior Folk Art Cinnamon acrylic. Kinda more orange than I expected. 2
Oliver77 Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 The body in white. Decent fits. Subtle and easy mold parting lines. Be careful with the alignment on rear piece. 2
Oliver77 Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 That rear panel line exists on the car. Needs a little more finesse here.
Oliver77 Posted November 16 Author Posted November 16 I munged the decal for the seatback speaker. The decals are admirably thin and seem to seat well, I was impatient and the Future gloss I used was still tacky.
Oliver77 Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Masking this for different colors will be extensive so I am doing a lot of brush painting. Used Tamiya XF-69 NATO Black instead of pure black. The interior color will require many thin coats to cover. 1
Oliver77 Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 Using the kit decal stripes to lay out the masking to spray stripes. 1
Oliver77 Posted December 4 Author Posted December 4 I sprayed Tamiya TS-15 Blue from the can. Again, not exactly a match for factory color. 3
seanyb505 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 Looking good! I've never thought to add weight to the engine, but now I kinda wanna lol
Oliver77 Posted Sunday at 02:37 PM Author Posted Sunday at 02:37 PM Drilled holes and glued in metal ferrules for exhaust tips. 4
Oliver77 Posted Sunday at 02:38 PM Author Posted Sunday at 02:38 PM Gonna need that 3-hair brush to detail these taillights. 2
Oliver77 Posted Monday at 06:39 PM Author Posted Monday at 06:39 PM Installed the interior to the body. There are good enough location tabs, but it does not just drop into place. Close, but enough that I did not want to hold it long enough for adhesive to set. I normally use MEK and canopy glue, sometimes ACC. So I used a hot soldering iron with a fine tip to CAREFULLY melt a small portion of the mating surfaces to stake the parts into position, to hold while the adhesives can set. 1
Oliver77 Posted Monday at 08:59 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:59 PM Tail light assembly. The inner portion gets covered by the outer clear part, depending how clear that is. In my case, there is black trim, taillight red and amber (translucent at best) and some diluted light gray on the backup light areas means I cannot really even see the inner portion. The clear outer covers fit closely, test fit to be sure the sprue nubs are really cleaned off. 1
Oliver77 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago Tires and wheels. Note one side of the tires has a subtle groove, to accommodate the wheel rim. The instructions do not mention it, the tire does not seat correctly if it is backward.
Oliver77 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago I sanded the treads, and also brushed on a matte, to kill the shine down in the grooves. This matte goes on milky but dries flat clear.
Oliver77 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago A little panel wash makes the wheel details pop.
Oliver77 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago Test fitting the chassis revealed a problem. The interior is just not QUITE fully installed like it should be. Passenger side low about ..015 inch, chassis will not seat fully. I ground down the inside of the frame and the passenger compartment to make it go. That interior fitment really needed more attention than I gave it.
Oliver77 Posted 19 hours ago Author Posted 19 hours ago Just a few items left to assemble. These things would never survive me wrassling that chassis in and out!
