HankinWisconsin Posted November 20 Posted November 20 After being out of game for 50+ years, decided to jump back in post retirement. Did three or four "practice" kits to reacquaint myself with the tools of the trade. Airbrushing is new to me and it's a struggle at times but I enjoy it all the same. The AMT Willys needed lots of cleanup but love it nevertheless. It's a work in progress and just a whole lot of fun. 9
FoMoCo66 Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Looks great, this kit can be made into something good just like most amt trophy series kits! 1
dragcarz Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Welcome back, it’s a great hobby to be involved with. So many possibilities available today. Your build is looking great! 1

Trainwreck, At this stage of my inexperience, thinking it'll be pretty much box stock other than the power train (I intend on using a VCG resin motor and transmission). Hank 2
HankinWisconsin Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 08:28 PM (edited) Post holiday update: Lots of mistakes on the firewall and dash (still needs some touch up) but still enjoying the build very much. Edited Wednesday at 08:33 PM by HankinWisconsin Can't spell on Wednesdays. 6

That looks very cool, nice work. And here I thought that my getting back into this hobby after a 45 year absence was a unique situation, you've got me beat by 5 years. Yep, it seems as though there are many folks in our situation having left the hobby and returning after many years. I think it's really a great time with all the re-issues and proliferation of resin and photo etched accessories. Hank 1
HankinWisconsin Posted Thursday at 02:53 PM Author Posted Thursday at 02:53 PM I should also mention that I've been told my color combinations can border on the hideous. I'll provide full disclosure on that particular subject...I'm quite colorblind. I often ask wifey if my color combo makes her ill...it often does. 😉
Speedpro Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM Posted Thursday at 07:07 PM Great looking willy's p/u project! 1
bytownshaker Posted Thursday at 09:16 PM Posted Thursday at 09:16 PM Looking good! I'm also color blind with some colors and my wife is also my color coordinator as far as interior/exteriors go. 1
HankinWisconsin Posted Saturday at 04:32 PM Author Posted Saturday at 04:32 PM Getting closer to the finish line. Not certain what motor/transmission combo I'll be using but that may have to wait. Currently leaning toward a VCG Ford 427 SOHC motor... 4
HankinWisconsin Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Doesn't look much different than the last pics but I'm calling it done for now. The motor and transmission will probably be a future side project. Wasn't too crazy about the "raccoon eyes" headlight bezels but oh well. On to the next build... 1
FoMoCo66 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I actually like the gutted look a lot. It would be cool if you got a 3d printed tranny with the clutch detail and set that in and also hung some loose rad hoses to show a truck that had the engine blown at the track and its getting rebuilt. 1

Funny thing, that's what I originally had envisioned for this build but went down too many rabbit holes. 😁 1
TarheelRick Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Good looking Willys pickup. Can't go wrong with a FOMOCO mill, especially a SOHC. 1 1
