espo Posted Sunday at 04:34 PM Posted Sunday at 04:34 PM Great way to lower the suspension setup. Will you have to also raise the drive shaft tunnel also or will the drive shaft clear as is?

Yes sir, I’ve done just enough kit bashing that USUALLY there is no surprises, but every once in a while something sneaks up on you. 8 hours ago, Misha said: Hi Steve, Great description of your chassis modifications as it offers a new perspective on how low will it go! The photos and captions describe your method perfectly, giving me all sorts of ideas 💡. Cheers Misha Thanks Misha, I try not to get too descriptive, as it might be a bit boring, but I always am open to any questions anyone has. 1

I was fairly certain that I would have to raise the tunnel, and had a plan for just that. In my initial mock up, everything fit! I was pleasantly surprised. I will need to do a “tight” mock up to confirm this, but I think I dodged that particular issue. 1
Steve H Posted Sunday at 11:04 PM Author Posted Sunday at 11:04 PM I had a fairly productive day at my desk today. Needed to adjust the rear track width, but wanted to use the kit axle. I will let the photos do the talking… Next up was some interior work. Will be removing the bow tie and “Chevrolet” from the rear tin work. For the door cards, I removed 0.5 mm from the bottom, and about 1.5mm from the top. This “channels” the body over the frame about 1.5”. While at it, I removed the window cranks, I’ll add power switches later. The dash that I received from “the Beaumont guru” needed to be narrowed about 3mm to fit. Haven’t decided on the front seats yet, but the Revell ones are in the running. Oh… the baby seat is from Iceman. The “perch” for the baby seat was scratch built, and you can see the bow tie etc. has been removed. The firewall will get 1.5mm removed as the tape indicates. As always, thanks for having a look. Questions and comments are welcome Cheers, Steve 3
Bills72sj Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM I like your mods to the Chassis. I have a few of these kits as donors for future ProStreet projects of other models. A '66 GTO in particular is actually in the queue.
Speedpro Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Hi steve, I was looking at your '83 olds (nice build by the way) and noticing it has a small seat in the back between the tubs. And you are incorporating a child seat into this build. I've seen them in pro street cars before, but far, few and in between. Definitely different. It's like it's your own little trade mark. I like your method of getting the car to sit low. Yea, it's a little more work, but well worth it. I like where this is headed.

I will keep my eye out for the GTO, they look great tubbed. 11 hours ago, espo said: Cool looking baby seat in the back. They are really cool. I had started making one a while back, but never finished it. (See reply below 👇) Haven’t decided how I want to paint it yet, but that’s a ways away yet. 8 hours ago, Speedpro said: Hi steve, I was looking at your '83 olds (nice build by the way) and noticing it has a small seat in the back between the tubs. Hi Paul, Thanks for the comment on the Olds build, one of my favourites still. I wish I had used “mirrored” turbos, but other than that happy with how it turned out. So…. the baby seat never got finished, and was not in the finished car. I wish I had done it though. I have thought about adding one to a few builds since, and finally I’m following thru on this build. I got the idea from a local car show on the island here. There was an absolutely wicked red 57 Chev with big tubs, and a baby seat on a perch between them. I thought, “man, that kid is definitely going to be a car guy or gal” and knew I would eventually add that to one of my models. I have another baby seat in the stash, and will use it on a future project as well. I think for me, it represents the idea of passing on my love of cars to the next generation. My daughter used to love going for rides in my Beaumont when she was young. She’d be in her car seat, smiling and say “make it go crunchy”. Her words for wanting to hear me rev the engine. I loved that! Most (almost all) of my models sit low. I have no problem taking the time to get the look I want. Stance is the most important part of a build for me personally. Thanks for checking in again sir!
Steve H Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago No photos, to go with this update, just some boring words. Another chassis alteration needed was to taper the top of the wheel tubs narrower so they fit higher up into the body. With the 2mm I raised the tubs on the chassis, and the 1.5mm channel, that’s about 3.5mm. An easy task, just mentioning it for anyone wondering how it all tucks up the extra few mm’s. likewise at the front, the top of the inner fenders were narrowed, and also thinned on the tops. The underside of the front fenders on the body also required a little thinning. Boring update, but thought I’d share those steps for those interested. Cheers, Steve 1
