Custom Hearse Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I found some paint that I like at Auto Zone. It's a silver pearl color called radiant silver metallic, made by Dupli-Color. My question is what color would be a good base coat, White, or silver (since the paint is translucent? Thanks for any help.
old low&slo Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 (edited) I think and I could be wrong that with pearls you use a white base. but you could try the spoon test and experiment maybe try other colors like black too hope this is some help . never seen a silver pearl sounds cool. Harry P. Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 The actual color you get with pearls (and all translucent paints) depends on the base color. ANY base color will work, and give you a different final color. For example, shooting silver pearl over white will give you a much different color than shooting it over black. Neither is "right" or "wrong"... it's a matter of what you want the final result to be. And the best way to see what the final result will be is to do the "spoon test". Get a box of white plastic spoons at the grocery store, spray various base colors on the spoons, cover each of them with the pearl silver and see which you like the best.

B_rad88 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 i would use as a base: bright silver or chrome silver! but that is just me!
