Jon Cole Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Need your advice! I want to airbrush some Model Master Acryl bottle paint. What do I thin it with? And... by how much? Thanks!
RJWood Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) Model master paint should have acrylic paint thinner, just follow the directions on the bottle. I have used Tamiya acrylic paint thinner with Model master paints with good results. Mix it about 1:1. I can't read the Tamiya directions so not sure what they recomend. just thin it as you would enamel paint. One more thing I would like to add; HAPPY BIRTHDAY JON !! Hope you have a great one. Jon Cole Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks, RJ! I'm heading out to The Olive Garden for my b-day as soon as the Mrs. gets home from work. As for acrylic paint, I am trying to find out if I should use water, or IsoAlcohol to thin it. I have the 91% stuff, maybe some 70% as well, not sure, I need to look around here. I have very little experience airbrushing acrylic. Any help and advice is appreciated.

You can use alcohol to thin it but I find tamiya x20 works much better and cleanup is better than 71% isopropl I do not know why I suspect x20 has something to slow down evaporation...I don't really care why....it just works. I buy x20 in the big (250ml) size....let us know.
chris coller Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I have used 90% isopropyl and it works just fine. Thin it out to a milk like consistancy and shoot it at about 15-20lbs and you should be set. It seems to dry rather quick that way and is about a 1/3 of the cost of Tamiya. JMO

That is what I'll try.
