Hey All-

Just got done putting on my 2nd. coat of Black TAMIYA lacquer on my 2001 W.J. car and was wondering how long do you guys wait to pull off the dividing line tape? I'm using a die-cast body with TAMIYA metal primer and like I said I just laid down my 2nd and final coat of black. Now, how long to wait to pull the tape? :P

From my previous post; Re-doing my paint on the 2001 Black & Silver W.J. Grand Am Pro-stock car. There is a big differance between Hobby lacquer and Hardware Store lacquer in rattle cans. Not only in the thickness / body of the paint but also in the nozzle jetting / spray. Never too old to learn are we / me? B)

Thanks....Marty

About 5-10minuts. I hope you have already pulled it off.

JASON-

It's been about 1/2 an hour and I pulled the tape with excellant results. Thanks for the input. Now, how long should I what for the black lacquer to cure before I tape it off to lay down the silver lacquer?

THANKS....Marty

I would not wait too long as once your recoat window closes all yuck can happen if you tick off the paint god.

Duplicolor lacquers can be recoated in 5 min...let flash and respray...pull tape off, over itself in 15 min. let dry for 3 to 4 hours, now retape, mist clear intercoat, mist second color coats ....pull tape off, over itself as always now shoot clear coats and put aside to cure for a week . then polish and foil....Other lacquers have a longer recoat time...Tamiya is 20 min Model Master (Testors one coat) seems to like 25 to 30 min between coats I find my dehydrator does speed up dry time between colors..but if you stay within the same paint mfgr. you can really speed things up. I do like to finish with TS 13 clear and as it is not as "hot" as duplacolor I can lay it on all at once. I learned the window method here as many first class artists paint here...check out Zoom Zoom , Treehugger Dave, or Lone Wolf.....read learn and shoot!!
