caine440 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Hello I bought this kit as a builder off ebay. It was painted all red and covered in fish eyes. Some parts were missing such as the grill, roll cage , and part of the hood scoop. I used a different motor and rear slicks. I am waiting on a roll cage and am thinking about changing the grill to one with clear tinted head lights so it is not completed yet. The body is not attached so I can get to the interior to add the roll cage. Thanks Thanks
charlzrocks Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 It looks Sweet dude! Cool build to rehab! I always liked Sox and Martin, they were a class act!
caine440 Posted August 23, 2009 Author Posted August 23, 2009 Thanks I always thought the Hood scoop that MPC used on this one looked odd but being a 30 year old kit I did not have the heart to cut it up. I am planning on getting a Duster from reliable resin to make one closer to the real thing. I know these cars are not as popular as others on this and other forums but they are the cars I love the most.
2002p51 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Since you're already planning on doing more work on this model, let me suggest that you consider re-wiring the engine. Twin plug Hemis used one distributor to fire the front plugs on all eight cylinders, while the other one fired the rear plugs. The way yours is, with one distributor for each bank, it would not run. It's not as hard as it seems, just wire them separately as if you were doing two engines. Just trying to help. Drew
caine440 Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 Yep I missed that thanks! Now I realize I have 3 of them wired this way. I will get the next one right
bigdaddyfan Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Great looking car. I saw these guys race at Broadway Bob's Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI when I was in HS. I used to have pictures of this car taken with my trusty 110 camera back in the early 70's. Those pictures are gone but I still have the autographed picture I got from Ronnie Sox. If I may comment politely, the rear wheels should be inside the wheel wells. At least that is what is shown in the picture. The car is launching but it is clear where they are.
caine440 Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 Yep, you are right Walter. The MPC kits have the stock Duster wheel well openings and chassis I did not have the heart to modify this one. I have a resin kit planned that has the correct rear wheel wells as well as an dart to duster conversion I am plying with now that has more tire clearance. Thanks for the input and I am jealous of your autograph from Ronnie.
