This is my entry to the Drift car build off. Before i start buildn' this one i'd like to know if anybody else has. i think i could get away with just putting the decals on and then clear coat over it, but i don't know if it would look good.

Here are some pics:

You may want to reconsider your plan. Raw plastic without pigment over it looks like plastic! Even with just clear paint. Also, the plastic is not 100% opaque, it does have some translucence. I always paint the inside of any car model body I build flat black. I feel it gives the model a more "finished" look. I guarantee the exterior will look dark where the inside has parts attached, or paint.

Avoid problems now, add paint.

Furthermore, what type of clear paint are you using? Remember, most white paints do not need a clear coat. If you spray enamel, you must go with enamel clear, which I can almost guarantee it will eventually turn yellow. Lacquer spray is more forgiving, but NEVER use lacquer over enamel!

I do not know if the Porsche Martini teams used vinyl graphics (many did), or painted them on. Vinyl graphis are rarely, if ever clearcoated. In fact, I suspect that clear paint would eventually flake off a vinyl graphic in the 1:1 world.

Tamiya makes some awesome white sprays, they flow and cover well.
