Mercman Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 (edited) I needed some small leaves for a dio I'm doing so I went to Mother Nature's house and got some 1-1 from her. these I put into a blender, after baking them for 20 minutes on low heat to kill anything living, and dry them some more. Oh yeah I got the blender at a thrift shop for a couple bucks. Set it on chop mode, and got this. Has to go through one more time to get them finer, but you get the idea. Also at the house now, we have some bright yellow colored leaves that will be collected. Now is the time to stock up on vegetation soon winter will be here, at least in ND anyhow. RodneyBad Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Great Idea. Betcha your G/F is glad ya bought your own blender
HotRodaSaurus Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Great idea but it had me thinking. I'm not an expert on dead leaves but will they bio-degrade or loose colour in time? Do the railroad enthusiasts use this method? Would save wads of cash$$$$££££. John
Eshaver Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I bet if you were to coat the dead leaves with a Clear flat Fixative spray like what we used to coat our Pastel drawings with , that the leaves would be fine . Actually it was a very fast drying flat laquer . I still see it at Michiaels , ( at least here in the states John ) . Ed Shaver
Mercman Posted September 16, 2009 Author Posted September 16, 2009 Actually there is a spray preserative to keep the leaves looking good. Also like Ed mentioned, a cover coat will work.
