Clear coat over silver?

I have been having a problem when I put clear over a silver base! When I do it it turns a gray color. Can any one help or have any ideas o what I should do?

what paint are you using? ive only seen this with testors and tamiya when sprayed heavy. i would try misting the clear on and letting it build over the silver without melting it
