Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Thanks, Terry, that means a lot to me. But you know the real fun is in working with these kinds of Revell kits that are such a joy to put together. The rest of the build should start coming together soon . . . Beaters like this are so low stress that they are just pure fun!!!
Modellpularn Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) It's a real cool project, Virgil! I have to try building more beaters. Did a Cobra some year ago..... Anyway, it's coming along nicely. I like that rust and salt technique, that's a must try! I want to see some more rust on the exhaust system. All the Chevies I've had, always had crappy rusted exhaust, that was replaced. Is the interior going to get "the treatment" as well? Edited November 10, 2009 by Modellpularn
riz Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Ok, Cranky... I found two surfboards and I'll drop them in the mail tomorrow. RIZ
stangman Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Thanks, Terry, that means a lot to me. I hope you got the hatches attened down tight. Bryan "stangman"
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Thanks, maties . . . I appreciate the comments. The storm is supposed to come by here during the night and in the morning, just high winds. We are still bringing the dogs in just in case . . . I've done a bit more progress just in case the power goes out for a day or so . . . just trying to get this one wrapped up. So far I just have this sucker mocked up . . .I still have to finishing detailing the interior . . . etc . . . All the decals were in my decal box . . . but it took some looking!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Here are some frontal side views . . . . You know the more I work with acrylics the more I like the fact that after the paint dries, it really helps all the colors come together . . . Geez, that front windshield looks way to clean . . . you know that's gonna change . . .
Harry P. Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Ok... stooopid question, but what about all the chrome trim on the body? And the ribs on the tailgate? Covered with body color???
1320wayne Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Wow!!!!!!!! I have seen the Tiki stencils before and I always wondered what you would ever use them for, until seeing this build. Now I know. This build is absolutely incredible. Your attention to detail and realism is incredible. As an added note, for anyone interested in finding cool surfboards. If you live near the beach where gift shops are plentiful, like I do, simply go looking for airbrushed, surfboard refrigerator magnets. They are usually the perfect size and already prepped to use with cool graphics.
Rudy Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Just flat-out amazing cranky!!!!!!!!!!! How long did it take you to get good at the weathering? I need to try some of this, I love "rattier" looking trucks and cars...... Awesome weathering, look so realistic with the decals and roof rack!!!!!! Awesome!!! Rudy
RodneyBad Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Love watching your Builds.. Looks Very Cool Love the weathering and colors.. Some Crazy reason, I keep thinking of the Brady Bunch and I don't know why???
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Thanks, everyone. Your comments really help keep me inspired. Harry, I still have to do the side trim, buddy. BMF is going to work, but I wanted to have the body nearly finished . . . stay tuned in for more progress . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Here you go, Harry, the boys over from the chroming department at Cranky's Workshop came over this morning and although they said the chrome trim on this 56 Chevy were shot and need to be replated, they did the best they could . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Started detailing the interior for final assembly . . .
Dave Ambrose Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Here's a question: does anybody know which kits bring the best surfing decals and/or surfboards? Thanks in advance! The California Surfing Museum in Oceanside, CA had some miniature surfboards in their gift shop that would probably be perfect for this build. What era of surfboard are you seeking? Cheers, Dave Ambrose
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 50s or 60s would be great. Thanks for the tip, buddy.
kyledr330 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Man am I glad I got to see this one in action. Great work Cranky! The surf board(s) will add a great punch to this ride. Just do me a huge favor and put a Billabong logo somewhere on that rod.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Thank you. All the parts are coming together now . . . I am applying a wash to the chassis and some powder and we should be pretty much done, except for the surfboards . . . Stay tuned in for more progress later this evening.
gilsdropshop1 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 love it, this is one cool wagon love the detail on the interior dept. great job.
GA55ER Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Here is my '55 Nomad Project that has stalled. I have a '55 Chevy 4-door Bel-Air that I've been trying to make a scale copy of with the '55 Nomad kit from AMT. I've had to fill in the Nomad roof lines and tailgate ribs and make the hood flip up like my 1=1 car, it's a lot of work and I get worn out. The real car has a 454 Big Block in it which I replicated with Hilborn injectors instead of the 4 barrel I have on it. Hey, I want the Hilborn but I can only afford the 1/25 version.

The Revell '48 Woody has the best surfboard decals for 1/25. Surfboards are harder to find in that scale, some of the V-Dub diecasts cars have nice boards but are expensive when you factor in the cost of the model. I'm new to this site but I zero'd in on your Nomad build.....................AWESOME!
riz Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 You work too fast. The surfboards went out today. RIZ
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Not a problem, buddy. I appreciate your generosity. This will be perfect, besides I am not done with all the details just yet!!!
Nick Winter Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Not a problem, buddy. I appreciate your generosity. This will be perfect, besides I am not done with all the details just yet!!! Cranky this is sooooooooooooooooooo cool, makes me wanna do a '29 ford truck surf rod. one question though why green on the 283?
Jairus Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 That was quick.... did you eliminate all the wiring and such by gluing the hood shut?
BKIN10SECS Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Cranky.....thats one sweet lady you there
