Ramcharger Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I just finished this one the other night, it was a difficult build. I made new purple decals, wired the engine, and put different rear tires on it. I have to figure out a base for it to get rid of the jackstand wheelie look. The guys in the garage seem oblivious to the huge monster popping a wheelie in the garage! Comments welcome! Thanks for looking!
jbwelda Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 yeah super cool! so is the beatnik bandit a separate kit or did it come with this robbin hood figure? if it came with the figure are there differences between it and the beatnik bandit that is available separately? aside from the distorted wheels and tires i mean? thats a totally finiky model to build, the bb i mean, and yours looks very well put together. i take it the decals were old and not usable or did you redo them to get a better color?
Ramcharger Posted December 12, 2009 Author Posted December 12, 2009 yeah super cool! Thanks! so is the beatnik bandit a separate kit or did it come with this robbin hood figure? It's the Outlaw kit and it's a separate kit with the figure and distorted wheels. if it came with the figure are there differences between it and the beatnik bandit that is available separately? aside from the distorted wheels and tires i mean? Nothing, all the regular parts are in there except the tires & decals, the chrome wheels are there, too. thats a totally finiky model to build, the bb i mean, and yours looks very well put together. i take it the decals were old and not usable or did you redo them to get a better color? It is a little fiddly, there are no decals with the kit, you're supposed to paint it all purple. I have another just Outlaw kit so I scanned the decals and changed the color to purple with Corel draw. I thought it gave it more character.
Rider Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Great job, the decals look awesome as does the rest of the build. These kits are way harder then they look, if you want it to look good. I did the "Mothers Worry" last spring and was very surprised at how much planing was invovled in the painting and building squence for one of these things. To get mine to "look" like it was in a perpetual wheelie I used expandable foam as smoke then painted and shaded it. The pic here doesn't do the smoke justice, but you'll get the idea. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23541
James Flowers Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 That looks pretty cool. I think it is suppose to look like it is in motion all the time? Like doing a wheelie.
RatRod Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Man, that is awesome!!! Fantastic build, and great idea with the decals!!!
Dragline Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 RIDONCULOUS, in a good way. I love these kits but have never had the gumption to tackle them. My grit falls just short enough to build Tom daniels kits. Wish i had the sack to tackle one of these. This is a great build. Thanks for showing us what can be done with one. Bob
jbwelda Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 thanks for the answers and thanks for sharing the photos, that really turned out great!
von Zipper Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 The Rat Fink Lives ! Anything by Ed Roth is COOL, You did a great job on this. Cecil
vizio93 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I love these models . You did a good job on it !!!

I'll see how that one turn out, then I'll give this one a try! Your "Mother's Worry" look cool. I'm a Roth freak, I'd like to build all his kits, I'm missing the Dragnut, Mother's Worry, & the Beatnik Bandit 2. Thanks for all the compliments.
Railfreak78 Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Sweet! I've always wanted to do something like this. Well done
charlzrocks Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 Awesome build! Love the purple decals!!! Excellent details too! You can find the BBII on the bay sometimes. I just finished mine and it is a pretty smooth build all the way through. Not like the others that you have to build the frame!
Ramcharger Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 I decieded to add a base to keep it in the wheelie position and add some smoke. I used clay to make the smoke and then airbrushed it. What do you think? Enjoy!!
Railfreak78 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Thats a really cool idea for the smoke I bet you just started something with the drag car section
Jeff Sauber Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Excellent job, man. Thats really nice. Great detail painting as well.
Mercman Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I'm a Roth freak, I'd like to build all his kits, I'm missing the Dragnut, Mother's Worry, & the Beatnik Bandit 2. I have done these two so far, still have the Angel Fink, Mr. Gasser, and the rest yet to do. Here's something that might be really rare. Yes 2 Roth T-shirt catalogs, sent to me by Ed himself. There is a neat story behind these. More later.
Mercman Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Okay it's a bit later. The story on the catalogs is this. Many years ago I wrote Ed a letter. He wrote me back, and I did some work for him finding a old Army buddy of his that lived here in N.Dak. I located the guy, and they were able to get in touch with each other again. So he sent me these catalogs for helping him out. That is how I got them. Ed I miss you buddy.
