1988 S10 Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 ok, this is only my 3rd or 4th model so dont be TOO critical! haha ok its a Ford SVT Lightning... i have already bagged and body dropped it... but its not glued because i have to paint it. Let me know what you think and any suggestions for color. Thanks!
Alfa Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Id paint it grabber Green. Model masters paint. Looks great so far.
crispy Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Looking Good! My vote for color would be Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green. Like my Tahoe: Chris
1988 S10 Posted December 22, 2006 Author Posted December 22, 2006  im in love! that blazer is AMAZING. any others like it?
crispy Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Thanks Erik! Actually the Tahoe was a practice build for some things I wanted to try and it turned out better than I could have hoped. That is an initial finish picture. I have another one in my fotki with the side mirrors on it, makes it look complete. Check out my link in my signature. Chris
1988 S10 Posted December 22, 2006 Author Posted December 22, 2006 wow! it looks awsome! i found that kit today, its just a snap together right? also, did you make the roll pan or get it from another kit? ALSO were im from no one has tamya paint.... is there a tester color that has the green candy look? Again, thanks a lot
crispy Posted December 23, 2006 Posted December 23, 2006 Erik, yes, the roll pan came from another snap-kit. The GMC 3500 dually truck. I believe the rear spoiler came from the AMT Chevy 454 SS kit. Those should all be relatively cheap to find on ebay. As far as a Testor's color goes, I don't think they have anything close. You could maybe try out one of their colors in the Boyd's line of Testor's. Have you got a Wal-Mart in your area? They might have some of the House of Kolor paints that will give you a cool custom color too. I hope this helps! Chris
1988 S10 Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 well i found a Tester paint called candy green transparent. I have used the candy apple red transparent before and thought it was good so i think i will try it. have any of you used this?
JAFFA Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Lookin good, if i'd paint it, i would mix a transperrant candygreen with some gold-metalic, and let it fade over a gold-yellow metalic from the front up to about where the hood ends, and to the doors on the sides. btw, were are those rims from??
1988 S10 Posted December 27, 2006 Author Posted December 27, 2006 they are off a DUB CITY model. the ford F150 it came with spinners and those ones so i shortened the axle up a bit and tada! haha about the paint, what color would i spray on first to get this efect? THanks
crispy Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Erik, I love Jaffa's idea. I would spray the gold base down and then the transparent green base. Make sure you let each one gas out enough. You do the same thing I do, buy the Dub City trucks for the wheels. They have some nice stuff and are pretty easy to work with. My Tahoe has some wheels from a Denali Dub City. Looking forward to seeing some paint on that LIGHTNING! Chris
1988 S10 Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 well, inspired by your tahoe i went out and got myself one to throw my own twist on it, here is what i have as of now. it needs paint but other than that it is done.... motor and all. what do you think?
crispy Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Erik, SWEET! What color you going to paint it with? The wheels look perfect for it! Great Job! Chris
1988 S10 Posted December 30, 2006 Author Posted December 30, 2006 im thinking of a silver bottom, red top two tone... not to sure yet... any suggestions for it? (testor colors only) thats all i can get Thanks for the compliments!
1988 S10 Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 ok well the tahoe can wait. i stated to paint the SVT and here is how the hood tourned out, let me know what you think
crispy Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Erik, I'm not a fan of red paint. But that is me. If you like it, then by all means spray that bad-boy and see what it will look like. Silver goes with just about anything. As for that hood, wow, how did you go about that? Looks interesting. Do you plan on carrying that out throughout the whole truck? That I like. Chris
Steve H. Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 ok well the tahoe can wait. i stated to paint the SVT and here is how the hood tourned out, let me know what you think Lace masking? Whatever it is, its a cool effect. Kinda like alligator hide.
1988 S10 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 what i did was sprayed the hood pretty thick and then lightly pressed a very textured paper towel onto it for a second to let it soak up some paint and give it the snake skin effect....im not sure if i want to carry it over to the whole truck or not, what do you all think? i know for sure i dont want to do the rest of the body solid with that color......suggestions please!!!
Steve H. Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Yeah, the whole truck in texture would be a bit much, too distracting. Hmmm... Maybe do the top portion of the cab/bed in the texture, lower half very dark green or Tamiya black mettalic? You could also seperate the colors with a thin gold stripe. Just an idea...
1988 S10 Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 well i havnt been on in a bit... i have been fabricating my interior of my REAL truck. still undecided about paint on this....is it hard to get that thing gold stripe idea without an airbrush? Thanks
Steve H. Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 No, you should be able to tape it off and shoot it with a rattlecan.
