Jon Cole Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Just had my cable fixed, now I find ESPN Classic. Watching the Daytona 500... the 1979 500! Way kewl. Dale Earnhardt... rookie?! And a crash on the backstretch that explodes into a fireball... no safety fuel cells back then. Isn't this the first televised 500? I believe I'm going to watch a fisty-cuff!
LUKE'57 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Don't remember the fire in '79 but the fuel cell came to Nascar in the mid to late '60's. I think it may have been the first flag to flag televised Daytona 500.
Roadkill2525 Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 It was the first flag to flag NASCAR race aired on national tv, most of the East coast was snowed in. Reporting was David Hobbs, Ken Squire, Ned Jarrett, and Brock Yates.
