Jon Cole Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 OK, I have never had epoxy fail to hold plastic. I made a part from some plastic I bought years ago from a hobby shop... but I don't know why the part wouldn't stay put? I scuffed up the surface. Are there some plastics that epoxy won't work on? And... if epoxy won't work, what will?
Guest arni Posted February 20, 2010 Posted February 20, 2010 Sounds more like a dodgy epoxy mix to me..Dont see why it shouldn't bond onto any material tbh..
Jon Cole Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 UPDATE- I am fairly certain the epoxy is not the culprit. I have used it on my current build, including the previous day without problem. I suspect the plastic. It was purchased from a hobby shop many years ago. It is a medium dark grey, and somewhat glossy. What types of plastic besides styrene do hobby shops sell?
ricky12 Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 If its gray in color i would bet its more of a pvc type plastic but as to what to use i would probley try superglue .
Madd Trucker Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Are you useing the old Dark gray Plastruct strucural shapes if so I could never usue epoxy on it either had to use thier glue when Plastruct first came out it was an ABS PLASTIC
E St. Kruiser50 Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I have used this product for nearly ten years, and it sticks to everything I have used it on in my model building, including alum, brass pieces, and every paint and plastic I have used it on. In my town I get it at a variety store or auto parts store. It's made by Permatex, a well known company in the auto industry, so shouldn't be too difficult to find.
